Florida Fugitive Found After Hit-And-Run In Wilmette: Blotters

Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state, and county prosecutors often choose to drop or reduce them. GLENCOE

INCIDENTS

UNEMPLOYMENT FRAUD
The identities of 13 Glencoe residents were used in fraudulent unemployment insurance benefit applications between Dec. 2 and Dec. 8.

AGGRAVATED IDENTITY THEFT
Someone stole the identity of a Maple Hill Road resident and used it to open several credit card accounts and accrue more than $10,000 in unauthorized charges at some point prior to noon on Dec. 3.

THEFT
Someone stole an Asus brand laptop from a home in the 400 block of Jackson Avenue at some point prior to noon on Dec. 6.

  • An Elm Ridge Drive resident reported on Dec. 7 that someone had used their identity to open an account with the online retailer Fingerhut.com. There was no financial loss reported.
  • Someone used the identity of an Elder Court resident to apply for a $12,000 loan at some point prior to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 7.

THEFT OF LOST/UNATTENDED ITEM
Someone stole a bicycle that had been left unlocked beside a home in the 600 block of Abbotsford Road between 9:45 and 10:45 a.m. on Dec. 5.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • An Oxford Road resident reported on Dec. 4 that someone stole their identity and used it in an application for unemployment insurance benefits.
  • A Roger Avenue resident reported on Dec. 8 that someone stole their identity and carried out some kind of bank fraud.
  • A Kenilworth Avenue resident reported on Dec. 10 that their stolen identity was used for bank fraud.
  • A Kent Road resident reported on Dec. 10 that someone used their stolen identity for some kind of fraudulent bank activities.

NORTHFIELD

INCIDENTS

FUEL THEFT
Staff at Sunset Petroleum, 469 Sunset Ridge Road, reported around 2 p.m. on Dec. 4 that the driver of a white truck stole $86 worth of diesel fuel at about 9:30 a.m. that morning.

DEA SCAM
A Lockwood Avenue resident reported getting a call from someone claiming to be an agent of the Drug Enforcement Administration. The caller inquired about the resident's credit cards and bank accounts.

UNWANTED PERSON
Police were called to a home in the 300 block of Wagner Road around 8:15 p.m. on Dec. 5 for a report that a guest was refusing to leave. The person left after speaking with officers.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • Between Nov. 30 and Dec. 6, four Northfield residents and a Sunset Ridge School District 29 employee reported their identities had been stolen and used to fraudulently apply for unemployment insurance benefits.
  • A Latrobe Avenue resident reported on Dec. 2 that someone had used their identity in an attempt to open a Walmart credit card.

ARRESTS/CITATIONSS

Angel Estrada, 26, of the 2100 block of North Natchez Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around noon on Dec. 4 following a four-car crash at the intersection of Willow Road and Lagoon Drive and charged with driving with a suspended license, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also issued citations for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash and operating a vehicle while using an electronic communication device. Read more...

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A Chicago Transit Authority employee reported on Nov. 27 that someone tagged four train cars with graffiti at the CTA station, 349 Linden Ave..

IDENTITY THEFT
A Romona Road resident reported on Nov. 28 that someone had used their identity to obtain an loan through the website of a bank in Bridgeport.

THEFT OF LOST/UNATTENDED ITEMS
Someone stole a piece of luggage that had been left unattended in the parking lot of the Residence Inn, 3205 Old Glenview Road, at some point on Nov. 29, police were told.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
An employee at Canal Shores Golf Course reported on Nov. 29 that someone had taken a framed photo off the wall of a golf course bathroom and smashed it on the ground.

UNWANTED CALLS
A Central Avenue resident reported on Nov. 29 that someone had placed several unwanted phone calls and voicemail messages. Police contacted the caller, who agreed to stop.

SHOPLIFTING
Someone stole unspecified items from the Walgreens, 811 Green Bay Road, around noon on Dec. 1. The unidentified shoplifter was gone before police arrived.

PACKAGE THEFT
A resident in the 2500 block of Greenleaf Avenue reported on Dec. 1 that a package had been recently stolen from their front porch for an unspecified loss.

IDENTITY THEFT
A Central Avenue resident reported on Dec. 3 that a bank holding company contacted them to notify them that someone had stolen their identity and tried to use it to open a credit card account.

CREDIT CARD FRAUD
A Glendenning Road resident reported on Dec. 3 that someone used their credit card information to buy a new cell phone at an unspecified location in Northbrook.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Hawkins Francios, 25, of the 7200 block of Coral Boulevard, Miramar, Florida, was arrested shortly around 10:15 a.m. Dec. 1 after police were called to the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard for a report of a hit-and-run traffic crash. Officers found Francois in the 2300 block of Old Glenview Road and took him into custody on charges of leaving the scene of a crash, obstructing identification, resisting police and fugitive from justice. Officers also found Hawkins had three active arrest warrants stemming from charges of fraudulent credit card use, grand theft and evidence tampering in Florida and engaging in organized criminal activity in Texas.


WINNETKA

INCIDENTS

IDENTITY THEFTS
Twenty-two Winnetka residents reported between Nov. 23 and Dec. 5 that their identities had been stolen and used in fraudulent unemployment insurance benefits applications.

STOLEN CAR
Shortly before 3:30 a.m. on Nov. 28, someone stole an car left unlocked with a key inside in the 900 block of Pine Street. The car was later found abandoned nearby after being involved in a one-car crash. No damage estimate was available at the time of the report.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone stole some glasses and cash from an unlocked car parked in the 700 block of Foxdale Avenue between 2 p.m. Nov. 27 and 11 a.m. Nov. 28 for a loss of $43.

VANDALISM
Pink spray paint was used to deface the intersection of Glendale Avenue and Oak Street at some point prior to 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 28.

THEFTS OF LOST/UNATTENDED ITEMS

  • Someone stole an bicycle worth $667 that had been left unlocked and unattended at a bike rack at New Trier High School between 7:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 21, police were told on Nov. 30.
  • Someone stole a sanding radiator from a job site in the 1300 block of Westmoor Terrace between 7 p.m. Nov. 21 and 9 a.m. Nov. 24 for a loss of $800.
  • An unattended bicycle worth $200 was stolen from a parking pad by a garage in the 1000 block of Cherry Street between 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 6.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Quinlan M. Grimes, 20, of the 800 block of Green Bay Road, Winnetka, was arrested around 8:15 a.m. on Nov. 28 in the 900 block of Green Bay Road and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater and driving with a suspended or revoked license. He was also issued a citation for operating an uninsured motor vehicle. (Grimes was released on bond Dec. 1 but subsequently failed to show up to court, contact the public defenders office or any pretrial services and a no-bond warrant for his arrest was issued Dec. 29.)
