Former New Trier Township Assessor Dies

Kathleen Meredith Baxter Almond passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on October 10th after a short illness. She was the beloved wife of 55 years to William A. Almond, Jr.: Wise mother of Kathleen (John) Knox, Meredith (John) McCormick, William Anthony III (Kerry Bordes) Almond; Loving Grandmother "Big Kathy" of Kathleen “Katie” and William Knox, John William ”Mac” McCormick, Kathryn Kearney, William Anthony IV, Mary Louise, and John Baxter Almond.

Kathy was born in Chicago on September 27, 1937 to Kathlyn L. Conley and Charles Lamar Baxter. She spent her early years in Winnetka and attended Saints Faith Hope & Charity grammar school before moving to Montgomery, Alabama and then to Fort Lauderdale, Florida . She graduated from Central Catholic High School in Fort Lauderdale, and from Manhattanville College in Purchase NY. In 1961 she married Bill, the love of her life, in Fort Lauderdale whom she had met on the beach there in 1955. After 4 years in Short Hills, New Jersey, Kathy and Bill moved back to Chicago and settled in Winnetka in 1969.

After raising their 3 children through their early years, Kathy decided to take on a new challenge and became a Realtor. She enjoyed a successful 35+ year career and remained passionate about giving her clients direct and honest advice. In conjunction with her thriving real estate career, Kathy also served as the New Trier Township Assessor for 16 years.

For enjoyment, Kathy was an avid duplicate bridge player, and was a long time member of the ACBL. She was especially proud of her 400+ Master Points.

Beyond Bridge, Kathy cherished time spent with were her husband, family and friends. She will be greatly missed by the many that loved her.

Visitation: Saturday, October 15, 2016, 9:00 a.m. until time of Funeral Mass:10:00 a.m. at SS Faith, Hope & Charity Church, 191 Linden Street, Winnetka, IL 60093.

Inurnment: Saturday, October 29, 2016 at West Laurel Hill Cemetery, 225 Belmont Avenue, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004.
