Glencoe Employee Returns To Work After Coronavirus Recovery
As one Glencoe worker returns to work, a second employee in the village's public works department has since been diagnosed with coronavirus.
GLENCOE, IL—A public works department employee who was diagnosed with the new coronavirus on April 8 is set to return to work after receiving medical clearance to do so, village officials confirmed.
“We are happy to welcome our teammate back to work, and we are very glad that they are in good health,” Village Manager Philip Kiraly said. “We are grateful for the support and positive thoughts from the Glencoe community directed toward this employee and their recovery.”
As one public works employee gets ready to return to work, village officials said they learned this week that a second employee in the public works department, a full-time maintenance worker, has since been diagnosed with COVID-19 after experiencing mild symptoms in the days preceding the diagnosis.

This employee last worked on April 16 and while at work, had no contact with the general public or Glencoe businesses, and had very little direct contact with other employees in the public works department, village officials said.
According to village officials, the widespread nature of COVID-19 in the Chicago region makes it difficult to determine whether the second employee’s case is related to the first employee’s case, which occurred approximately two weeks earlier.

Village officials said the department has put in place significant measures to isolate employees from one another while on duty, including the implementation of social distancing guidelines, the use of personal protective equipment and alternate scheduling to limit the total number of employees on duty at one time.
“Our thoughts are with our employee, and we send them our best wishes for a quick and complete recovery,” Village Manager Kiraly said. “We remain appreciative that the employee notified the Village, demonstrating their concern for the well-being of our employees and the community.”
