Head of Chicago Theological Seminary to Speak in Winnetka
Rev. Dr. Stephen G. Ray, Yale and Garett scholar, will keynote at Tuesday Interfaith Thanksgiving Service
Rev. Dr. Stephen G. Ray, celebrated religious scholar and head of the Chicago Theological Seminary, will speak at the upcoming, annual Thanksgiving event of the New Trier Multifaith Alliance. The Alliance, comprising 14 North Suburban faith communities, will once again host its popular Interfaith Thanksgiving Service, to be held this year at Saints Faith Hope and Charity Parish, 191 Linden, Tuesday November 20 at 7:30 p.m.
A renowned theologian and scholar, Ray earned his MDiv and PhD from Yale. He has served on many faculties, including Garrett-Evangelical Theological and Lutheran Theological Seminary. A celebrated writer, Ray published one book, Do No Harm: Social Sin and Christian Responsibility, and co-authored another, Black Church Studies: An Introduction. He has received numerous awards, including Yale Divinity’s Hooker Fellowship for Excellence in Theological Studies, and was named to Morehouse College’s Martin Luther King, Jr. International Collegium of Scholars in 2008.
NTMA’s Interfaith Choir, Children’s Choir, and representatives of various faith communities will lead attendees in music, prayer and thanksgiving. The service is open to all worshippers. As always, admission to the Thanksgiving event is offered free of charge. Light refreshments will be served following the keynote speaker’s presentation. In keeping with the Alliance members’ mission for social action, the New Trier Township Food Pantry will benefit from all free-will monetary offerings.
