The following information comes from the Glencoe, Kenilworth, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state, and county prosecutors often choose to drop or reduce them. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless later proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.


GLENCOE

INCIDENTS

SIGN THEFT
Someone stole a political sign from the front yard of a home in the 1100 block of Sheridan Road prior to about 9 p.m. Oct. 9.

HIT-AND-RUN/FLEEING
Around 3:45 a.m. on Oct. 18 around the 1200 block of Skokie Ridge Drive, a driver refused stop, struck a squad car and a landscape pillar and a fence while trying to drive away. The person then escaped on foot. No further information about the incident was immediately available.

CAR BURGLARIES
Car burglars rummaged through unlocked Audis and BMWs in the 1100 block of Oak Ridge Drive and the 600 block of Lincoln Avenue during the overnight hours of Oct. 19 into Oct. 20.

CAR THEFTS
On the morning of Oct. 20, a resident of the 1200 block of Hohlefelder Road reported that car thieves had gotten into three vehicles that had been left unlocked. Two Range Rovers were stolen. The other car was was rummaged through and left with some damage.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • Someone used the identity of an Elm Ridge Drive resident to file an insurance claim prior to Oct. 15.
  • An Elm Place resident reported on Oct. 16 that someone used their identity to withdraw an unspecified amount of money from their bank account over a period of several days.
  • Someone used the identity of a Greenleaf Avenue resident to file for unemployment insurance benefits, police were told on Oct. 17
  • Residents of Eastwood Road and Lake Street reported on Oct. 19 that someone had used their identity to fraudulently apply for unemployment insurance benefits.
  • A Sunset Lane resident reported on Oct. 19 that someone had used their identity to fraudulently apply for a small business loan.
  • On Oct. 20, residents of Madison Avenue and Elm Ridge Drive reported someone had used their identity in an attempt to fraudulently obtain unemployment insurance benefits.
  • Someone used the identity of a Rockgate Lane resident to apply for a Verizon cellphone, police were told on Oct. 20.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Rayshawn Minor, 23, of the 1100 block of Milwaukee Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 2:30 a.m. on Oct. 9 and charged with seven counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of controlled substance, possession and delivery of more than 30 grams of cannabis, resisting arrest with an injury to an officer, obstructing identification, driving under the influence of drugs and driving with a suspended license following an encounter with police in the 900 block of Pine Tree Lane.

Elizabeth M. Broumas, 42, of the 16300 block of North Claremont Street, Chicago, was arrested around 2:30 a.m. on Oct. 14 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater. She was also issued citations for improper lane usage and disobeying a red light following a traffic stop at Green Bay and Lake Cook roads.

Jan Bak, 30, of the 300 block of Park Avenue, Glencoe, was arrested around noon on Oct. 15 at his home and charged with stalking and harassment by electronic communication.

Jamie G. Tate, 26, of the 6000 block of South Michigan Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 2 a.m. on Oct. 17 and charged with possession of a controlled substance, driving with a suspended license, obstructing identification. He was also issued citations for no registration, failure to signal, illegal transportation of alcohol by a driver, possession of cannabis in a motor vehicle and failure to signal.

Katherine D. Hightower, 35, of the 20800 block of Exmoor Avenue, Barrington, was arrested around 8:15 p.m. on Oct. 19 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop near Greenleaf and South avenues. She was also issued citations for illegal stopping and possession of open alcohol by a driver.

FRAUD
A Roger Avenue resident reported getting scammed out of about $700 after responding to an unsolicited notification regarding computer viruses on their personal computer between Sept. 23 and Oct. 7.

IDENTITY THEFT
An Abbotsford Road resident reported someone stole their identity on Oct. 2 or Oct. 3.

THEFT
Someone stole an unattended piece of utility use equipment worth $500 from their front yard of a home in the 100 block of Oxford Road shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 7.


NORTHFIELD

INCIDENTS

THEFT
A business owner in the 1700 block of Ash Street reported that someone stole a garbage bin from an adjacent alley.

AMAZON SCAM
An Arbor Lane resident reported on Oct. 7 that they had gotten a call that purported to be from the "billing department" at Amazon. The caller told the resident the company was owed $700 and asked for payment via gift cards. The resident ended up providing the scammer with a $500 gift card.

FAKE VILLAGE LOGO
Police contacted Global Adjusting and Construction, a Schaumburg-based roofing company, and told them to immediately stop using the logo of the village of Northfield in its advertising materials after a resident reported on Oct. 8 that they got a solicitation from the business in the mail that had the village's logo on it.

PACKAGE THEFT
Someone stole a package that had been delivered to the 500 block of Woodland Lane South prior to 10:30 a.m. Oct. 16.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • On Oct. 14, a resident of Old Farm Road reported that someone used their identity to fraudulently file for unemployment insurance benefits.
  • On Oct. 15, seven employees of Sunset Ridge School District 29, 525 Sunset Ridge Road, reported that someone used their identities to fraudulently file for unemployment insurance benefits.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

A 33-year-old Sugar Grove man was issued a local ordinance citation for unlawful use of water after police were called to the 400 block of Wagner Road by village public works staff, who reported that a contractor working in the area had been taking water from a hydrant without permission.


WILMETTE

INCIDENTS

AMAZON SCAM
A Pin Oak Drive resident reported getting scammed out of $7,300 by a scammer claiming to be a representative of Amazon. The caller threatened the resident's employment and demanded gift cards.

VANDALISM
Someone used a red marker to draw a symbol on the door to a storage unit in an underground garage in the 1100 block of Greenleaf Avenue, police were told on Oct. 3.

COUNTERFEIT CASH
A Schiller Avenue resident reported on the afternoon of Oct. 5 that they were paid $300 in fraudulent bills for a paid of shoes in a transaction arranged on Snapchat.

CHECK SCAM
A Walnut Avenue resident reported on the morning of Oct. 6 that someone sent them an fraudulent $3,200 check to pay for a living room furniture set they had placed for sale online.

SHOPLIFTING
Police were called to the Walgreens, 811 Green Bay Road, around 5 p.m. on Oct. 7 for a report of two people suspected of stealing items from the store. The pair was gone by the time officers arrived.

BRICK THEFT
Police were told a gray, small-sized pickup truck parked at the intersection of 10th Street and Central Avenue around noon on Oct. 14 before the driver got out and stole village-owned paving bricks that had been stacked on the parkway into the bed of his truck.

FRAUD
A Skokie Court resident reported getting a $9,900 bill from the U.S. Small Business Administration on Oct. 12, although the resident does not own or operate a business.

STOLEN CARS

  • A resident in the 1900 block of Highland Avenue reported their car was stolen while it was parked the street during the night of Oct. 1 or morning of Oct. 2. Police did not specify if it was locked.
  • Someone stole an unlocked Jeep from the 900 block of 11th Street prior to 7 a.m. Oct. 6 after it was left unlocked with one of the keys inside. The car was found abandoned in the 1100 block of Lake Avenue and returned.
  • Someone stole an unlocked car with the keys inside from the 2000 block of Greenwood Avenue between Oct. 11 and Oct. 12. It was later found abandoned in Chicago via a tracking device and towered to the Wilmette Police Department.

SIGN THEFTS

  • Between 4 p.m. Oct. 10 and 2:30 p.m. Oct. 11, political signs were stolen from the yards of homes in the 200 block of Linden Avenue, the 400 block of Sheridan Road and the 200 block of Linden Avenue.
  • On Oct. 12, residents in the 100 block of 5th Street and 1000 block of Greenleaf Avenue reported that three political signs were stolen from yards.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

  • Someone damaged property and scratched symbols into a cement wall in the 2000 block of Elmwood Avenue prior to Oct. 1.
  • A resident in the 1100 block of Greenleaf Avenue reported on Oct. 2 that someone scratched a symbol into their mailbox.
  • A resident in the 500 block of Knox Avenue reported around 10 a.m. on Oct. 5 that someone fired a pellet gun at their car, damaging one of its windows.
  • On Oct. 11, a CTA employee reported that someone spray painted two train cars at 349 Linden Ave.
  • A resident in the 300 block of Skokie Court reported on the morning of Oct. 11 that someone scratched their car.
  • Someone damaged a yard sign in the 2000 block of Washington Avenue prior to 7 p.m. Oct. 15.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • Someone stole unspecified personal items from a car left unlocked in the 2200 block of Schiller Avenue during the overnight hours of Oct. 1 to Oct. 2.
  • Someone stole unspecified personal items from a car left unlocked in the 100 block of Linden Avenue during the overnight hours of Oct. 1 to Oct. 2.
  • Someone stole unspecified personal items from two cars left unlocked in the 700 block of Chilton Lane during the overnight hours of Oct. 2 to Oct. 3.
  • Someone rummaged through an unlocked car in the 3100 block of Walden Lane during the overnight hours of Oct. 2 to Oct. 3, nothing was reported missing.
  • Someone got into two unlocked cars in the 3100 block of Sprucewood Lane during the overnight hours of Oct. 2 to Oct. 3, stealing property from one of them.
  • During the overnight hours of Oct. 5 to Oct. 6, five cars were burglarized in the 1700 block of Forest Avenue, the 900 block of Pontiac Road and the 2000 block of Central Avenue. All of them were left unlocked. Unspecified personal items were reported stolen from one of them.
  • Someone burglarized a pair of unlocked cars in the 3100 block of Walden Lane prior to 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 9.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • A Central Avenue resident reported on Oct. 1 or Oct. 2 that someone fraudulently applied for a small business loan for their business.
  • A Wilmette Avenue resident reported on Oct. 5 that someone had used their spouse's identity to fraudulently apply for unemployment insurance benefits for which they had never applied.
  • On Oct. 6, a 20th Street resident reported that someone used their identity to fraudulently apply for unemployment insurance benefits.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Daniel T. Rossiter, 34, of the 12200 block of S. Spencer Street, Alsip, was arrested around 10:45 p.m. on Oct. 5 and charged with possession of a controlled substance after an officer reported he was found passed out behind the wheel of a car with the engine running in a parking lot in the 300 block of Ridge Road.

Gary E. Churchill, 54, of the 2300 block of Iroquois Road, Wilmette, was arrested around 1 a.m. on Oct. 6 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater following a traffic stop in the 2500 block of Lake Avenue. He was also issued citations for improper lane usage and not signaling properly.

Jatari Triplett, 19, of the 4600 block of Dobson Street, Skokie, was arrested around 10 a.m. on Oct. 6 and charged with driving under the influence of drugs following a traffic stop in the 2200 block of Lake Avenue. Police reported he failed a field sobriety test. He was also issued citations for operating an uninsured motor vehicle, unlawful possession of open cannabis by a driver, improper lane usage and failure to carry a driver's license.

Erin Waldren, 42, of the 900 block of Oak Drive, Glencoe, was arrested around 11 p.m. on Oct. 7 following a traffic stop in the 600 block of Green Bay Road and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. She was also issued a citation for failure to signal.

Timothy Reilly, 46, of the 100 block of West Randolph Street, Chicago, was arrested around 10:45 a.m. on Oct. 8 and charged with violation of an order of protection after police were called to a Sheridan Road home from which a judge had forbidden him.

Hilario Clavijo Irineo, 45, of the 2000 block of Church Street, Evanston, was arrested around 1:15 a.m. on Oct. 9 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after officers encountered a car stopped in the 1100 block of Wilmette Avenue. Police reported he provided insufficient breath samples.

Tara N. Khatiwada, 26, of the 1700 block of West Estes Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 6 a.m. on Oct. 15 after an officer encountered him driving west on Lake Avenue with heavy front-end damage and flat tires. The officer reportedly pulled the car over on the Edens Expressway at Golf Road and spoke with the Khatiwada, who appeared to be impaired. He was charged with driving under the influence of drugs and cited for driving with a license expired less than a year and driving without headlights.

Chyler E. Geary, 24, of the 1600 block of Greenleaf Avenue, Evanston, was arrested on Oct. 10 and charged with misdemeanor criminal damage after police were told he had damaged a vehicle in a parking lot in the 1500 block of Sheridan Road around 4 p.m. on Oct. 9.

Judy Caruso, 56, of the 800 block of Park Avenue, Wilmette, was arrested around 9 p.m. on Oct. 10 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Police reported she showed signs of intoxication, failed field sobriety tests and refused to provide a breath sample. She was also issued citations for speeding and improper lane usage.


WINNETKA

INCIDENTS

STOLEN CAR
Sometime between 1:12 and 2:13 a.m. on Oct. 16, someone stole an unlocked car that had the key left inside while parked in the 400 block of Hill Road. A second unlocked car had also been rummaged through.

EMAIL SCAMS

  • A Lindenwood Drive resident reported around 5 p.m. on Oct. 14 that they had been scammed out of $700 after getting an fraudulent email asking for gift cards that appeared to come form a work colleague.
  • An Elm Street resident reported they were scammed out of $500 after getting an email from someone purporting to be an Amazon employee who claimed the resident had recently made a purchase. The resident sought to dispute the charge and was asked to buy Best Buy gift cards to resolve the charge. The resident bought the cards and gave the scammer the numbers.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • A Poplar Street resident reported on Oct. 5 that someone used their identity in an attempt to open up a credit card account between Sept. 21 and Sept. 25.
  • A Walden Road resident reported that someone used their identity to open an unauthorized bank account on Oct. 7.
  • An Asbury Avenue resident reported that someone used their identity to fraudulently apply for a debit card and unemployment insurance benefits.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • Two unlocked cars parked in a driveway in the 600 block of Spruce Street were burglarized between 10 p.m. Oct. 15 and 2:30 a.m. Oct. 16. Nothing was reported stolen.
  • Someone stole a garage door opener valued at $30 from an unlocked car in the 400 block of Hawthorn Lane between 5 p.m. Oct. 15 and 8 a.m. Oct. 16.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

A 22-year-old Evanston man and a 45-year-old Evanston man were issued citations for trespassing on private property after the owner of property in the first block of Green Bay Road reported they removed barriers and a "no trespass" sign while working in the area.

Nicholas P. Kopp, 39, of the 700 block of 12th Street, Wilmette, was arrested around 4 p.m. on Oct. 9 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop in the 600 block of Hill Road. He was also issued citations for improper lane usage and illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a driver.

James Iredell McRee Whiteman, 38, of the 2100 block of North Fremont Street, Chicago, was arrested around 9:45 p.m. on Oct. 16 in the 1300 block of Willow Road and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and DUI with a BAC of 0.08 or greater. He was also ticketed for speeding.
