July 4th Fireworks In Glencoe Moved To Labor Day Weekend
Events at Lakefront Park traditionally held on the evening of July 4 were rescheduled to Sept. 3 due to coronavirus-related restrictions.
GLENCOE, IL — Glencoe's annual July 4 lakefront fireworks celebration has been canceled for the second consecutive year, village and park district officials announced Friday in a joint statement.
Instead, a fireworks show is being planned for Sept. 3 to kick off Labor Day weekend.
Organizers had to arrange contracts and permits months ahead of the event, without knowing what state public health restrictions might be in place at the time, according to the statement.

"All those involved in the planning share the community’s disappointment with this decision," it said. "We were hopeful that this holiday tradition would be possible, but the decision needed to be made with the information known at this time."
The organizing committee considered changes to the event, including a drive-in format or reservations for designated spots, but determined it would be impossible to control the attendance.

Park District officials plan to host some smaller activities, including preschool games, during daylight hours on July 4.
Glencoe Beach is scheduled to be closed Sept. 3 for preparations for that night's fireworks show, which is set to be accompanied by live music.
