NEW TRIER TOWNSHIP, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Kenilworth, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state, and county prosecutors often choose to drop or reduce them. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless later proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

GLENCOE

INCIDENTS

UNEMPLOYMENT FRAUD
Twenty-eight Glencoe residents reported their identities had been stolen and used to fraudulently apply for unemployment benefits between Jan. 6 and Jan. 19.

COMPUTER SCAM
A Skokie Ridge Drive resident reported on Jan. 14 that someone gained access to a bank account and stole between $10,000 and $100,000 from it after scamming the resident into believing their computer had been infected with a virus.

HARASSMENT
A Sheridan Road resident reported around 2 p.m. Jan. 18 that they considered a voicemail that had been left on their cell phone to constitute harassment.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Jan S. Bak, 30, of the 300 block of Park Avenue, Glencoe, was arrested around 10:30 a.m. Jan. 11 in the 3800 block of North Central Avenue in Chicago and charged with stalking. The arrest comes less than three months after he was charged with stalking and harassment by electronic communication following an arrest at his home.

Lamar E. Whitehead, 40, of the 2000 block of 10th Street, Waukegan, was arrested around 9:30 a.m. Jan. 15 at an unspecified location and charged with identity theft and burglary from a motor vehicle.


KENILWORTH

INCIDENTS

UNEMPLOYMENT FRAUD
Between Jan. 8 and Jan. 15, police received seven reports of residents' stolen identities being used in fraudulent unemployment insurance benefits claims.

IDENTITY THEFT
A Maclean Avenue resident reported on Jan. 8 that their Social Security number had been compromised. There was no monetary loss at the time of the report.


NORTHFIELD

INCIDENTS

UNEMPLOYMENT FRAUD
Twenty-one Northfield residents reported that their identities had been stolen and used to fraudulently apply for unemployment insurance benefits between Jan. 4 and Jan. 16.

UNWANTED GUEST
A house sitter in the 2000 block of Winnetka Road reported around 3:30 a.m. on Jan. 7 that a former acquaintance had been at the home without permission. The unwanted person was gone before officers arrived.

THREATS TO CAR DEALER
Staff at the Fields BMW, 700 W. Frontage Road, reported around 9 a.m. on Jan. 13 that a customer had made threats toward employees. Officers talked to the patron of the business, who explained they were unhappy with the service they had received and denied threatening staff. Management of the car dealership had the person notified they were banned from its premises and officers established a special watch at the location. Police were called back to the car dealership for a report of an unruly customer around 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 15. Officers let the person know they, too, were banned from the dealership's property.

SUSPICIOUS NEIGHBOR
A resident in the 300 block of Crestwood Village Road called police around 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 15 to report that there was a suspicious man or boy in the area. Officers arrived and determined it had been the caller's neighbor.

SUSPECTED TRESPASSING
A resident in the 1700 block of Winnetka Road reported around 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 17 that they believed a former acquaintance had entered their garage.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

A 21-year-old Chicago man was arrested around noon on Jan. 6 and charged with driving without a valid license and issued citations for speeding and operating an uninsured motor vehicle following a traffic stop near Willow Road and Alice Place.

A 23-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 8 a.m. on Jan. 7 and charged with speeding more than 35 mph above the limit following a traffic stop near Willow and Wagner roads.

A 21-year-old Elgin man was issued a citation for illegal possession of cannabis in a motor vehicle and improper parking on a roadway following an encounter with police in the 1700 block of Willow Road shortly before midnight on Jan. 10.

A 28-year-old Chicago woman was arrested around 10 a.m. Jan. 11 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop in the 1900 block of Willow Road. Officers also issued her a citation for speeding 47 mph in a 30 mph zone.

INCIDENTS

UNEMPLOYMENT FRAUD
Eighty Wilmette residents reported their identities had been stolen and used in fraudulent claims for unemployment insurance benefits between Jan. 4 and Jan. 15.

BANK ROBBERY
Two unidentified men passed a note implying they had a gun and robbed three banks on the afternoon of Jan. 4, including the Byline Bank at 3245 Lake Ave. in Wilmette, according to the FBI. The FBI is offering $1,000 for information leading directly to their arrest. Read more...

HOME BURGLARY
On Jan. 4, police were told someone had burglarized a home in the 800 block of Lacrosse Avenue at some point since late November. It was not clear what, if anything, was stolen at the time of the report.

PACKAGE THEFT
A resident in the 1700 block of Forest Avenue reported on Jan. 4 that someone had stolen a package from their front porch

SIGN THEFT
A resident in the 3100 block of Wilmette Avenue reported on Jan. 4 that someone had stolen a sign from their front yard.

BANK EMPLOYEE SCAM
A Spencer Avenue resident reported on Jan. 5 that someone purporting to be a bank employee called them and convinced them to provide account information. The resident later discovered $5,000 had been drained from their account.

GIFT CARD SCAM
A Beverly Drive resident reported on Jan. 6 that they had been scammed by someone claiming to be a business associate. The scammer convinced the resident to buy $600 worth of Google Pay gift cards and provide the card information.

PHONE HARASSMENT
A Kin Court resident reported on Jan. 7 that an unidentified person had been placing harassing phone calls to them.

ARGUMENT
Police were called to an unspecified business in the 3600 block of Lake Avenue for a report of a dispute between an employer and a former employee at some point on Jan. 7.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone caused an unspecified amount of damage when they spray painted some kind of graffiti on a concession stand at Canal Shores Golf Course, police were told on Jan. 12.

ONLINE HARASSMENT
A Lake Avenue resident reported on Jan. 12 that their daughter, who is under 18, had been harassed through a social media website and via email.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone got into a work truck in the 1100 block of Mohawk Road and stole some number of power tools, police were told on Jan. 14. Police did not specify whether the truck was locked.

CREDIT CARD FRAUD

  • A 14th Street resident reported on Jan. 12 that someone used their credit card to make two unspecified online purchases.
  • A Lincoln Lane resident reported on Jan. 13 that someone used their credit card information to make three online purchases for unspecified amounts at some point in the past two weeks.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Marquis Williams, 33, of the 41100 block of Cedar Street in Michigan City, Indiana, was arrested shortly after 12:45 p.m. on Jan. 1 and charged with one count of burglary after an officer pulled over a car he was driving in response to a report someone had just stolen tools from truck belonging to the village's public works department.

Young Cho Kim, 41, of the 8300 block of Mango Avenue, Morton Grove, was arrested at an unspecified time on Jan. 1 and charged with one count of criminal damage after police were called to the 3000 block of Hill Lane and determined he had just broken out a car window.

A 23-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 9 a.m. on Jan. 6 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop in the 2700 block of Lake Avenue. He was also issued a citation for speeding 15 to 20 mph above the limit.

A 20-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 6 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop in the 2600 block of Wilmette Avenue. He was also issued a cell phone violation citation.

An 18-year-old Evanston man was arrested around 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 8 and charged with speeding more than 35 mph above the limit following following a traffic stop in the 2300 block of Lake Avenue.


WINNETKA

INCIDENTS

UNEMPLOYMENT FRAUD
Fifty-six village residents reported their identities had been stolen and used to fraudulently apply for unemployment insurance benefits between Jan. 4 and Jan. 16.

ILLEGAL DUMPING
Someone left construction debris in a parking lot in the 900 block of Green Bay Road shortly before 7:15 p.m. on Jan. 2, police were told on the morning of Jan. 4.

PACKAGE THEFT
Someone stole a package from the front door area of a home in the 1000 block of Oak Street between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 31, police were told on the afternoon of Jan. 6.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • An Oak Street resident reported on Jan. 5 that someone had used their identity and their spouse's identity to apply for duplicate driver's licenses from the Secretary of State's Office.
  • An Asbury Avenue resident reported that someone had used their identity to make more than $1,600 worth of purchases using their debit card between Jan. 4 and Jan. 5.
  • A Kent Road resident reported on Jan. 13 that someone had used their identity to take control of their credit card and make various unauthorized purchases, which were later canceled.
  • An Oak Street resident reported that someone had used their identity to make nearly $1,700 worth of unauthorized purchases using their credit card.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

A 20-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 1 a.m. Jan. 10 in the 600 block of Sheridan Road and charged with speeding 26 to 34 mph above the limit.

A 36-year-old Highland Park man was issued a local ordinance violation citation for petty theft around 4 p.m. on Jan. 13 after attempting to steal a case of beer from the Grand Food Center, 606 Green Bay Road.

A 29-year-old River Forest woman was arrested around 8:15 a.m. on Jan. 14 and charged with driving with a suspended driver's license folowing a traffic stop near Elm and Maple streets. She was also issued a citation for disobeying a stop sign.

A 29-year-old New Bedford, Massachusetts, man was arrested around 8 p.m. Jan. 16 and charged with speeding 26 to 34 mph above the limit.
