NEW TRIER TOWNSHIP, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Kenilworth, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state, and county prosecutors often choose to drop or reduce them. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless later proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

GLENCOE

INCIDENTS

UNEMPLOYMENT FRAUD
Twelve Glencoe residents reported someone had used their identity to apply fraudulently for unemployment benefits between Feb. 11 and Feb. 23.

IDENTITY THEFT
Someone used the identity of a Skokie Ridge Drive resident to fraudulently open several credit cards.

PORN SCAMS

  • A Greenleaf Avenue resident reported on Feb. 11 that someone had tried to blackmail them into paying money while threatening to post compromising photos onto the internet.
  • Someone tried to scam a Jefferson Avenue resident into making a payment to prevent the scammer from posting compromising photographs online.

ARRESTS

Anna S. Carmichael, 28, of the 4400 block of Opal Road, Norridge, was arrested around 4:45 p.m. on Feb. 9 in the 1800 block of West Golf Road in Mount Prospect and charged with two counts of possession of heroin, one count of possession of methamphetamine and one count of delivery of methamphetamine.

Michael Patrick Trebol Teves, 51, of the 4700 block of North Racine Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 8 a.m. on Feb. 23 following a traffic stop on Lake Cook Road. He was charged with possession of methamphetamine and cited for no insurance, expired registration and having a loud muffler.


KENILWORTH

INCIDENTS

UNEMPLOYMENT FRAUD
Police received two reports from village residents that their identities had been stolen and fraudulently used to apply for unemployment insurance benefits between Feb. 8 and Feb. 13.

STOLEN CAR
Someone stole a car that was left unlocked with its engine running in the 200 block of Warwick Road around 5:30 p.m. Feb. 16. The car was later found abandoned in Chicago. Police reported it will be processed for evidence and the investigation into its theft is ongoing.


NORTHFIELD

INCIDENTS

UNEMPLOYMENT FRAUD
Five Northfield residents reported between Feb. 15 and Feb. 19 that someone fraudulently applied for unemployment insurance benefits using their identity.

GROCERY STORE THREAT
Staff at the Mariano's, 1822 Willow Road, reported on the night of Feb. 9 that an employee had gotten a threatening call from an upset customer. Officers contacted the customer and told them management requested they stop calling, and the customer agreed. No charges were filed.

UNWANTED MAIL
A resident of the first block of Meadowood Lane reported on the afternoon of Feb. 11 that someone they did not know sent them a suspicious letter.

DAMAGED MAILBOX
On the morning of Feb. 14, police were called to a home in the 500 block of Thornwood Lane for a report of a damaged mailbox, which may have been struck by a snow plow.

PHONE SCAMMER THREAT
A Fox Meadow Lane resident reported on the morning of Feb. 16 that someone had called them from an out-of-state number and claimed that they had won a large amount of money in the lottery and that they needed to send money to the caller to pay for a transfer of the supposed winnings. After the resident pointed out the scam and hung up, the caller called back and threatened to shoot the resident.

ELECTRONIC HARASSMENT
An Arbor Lane resident reported on the afternoon of Feb. 21 that a former acquaintance had been sending them unwanted social media messages and telephone calls after being told they wanted no further contact. Officers contacted the former acquaintance and reminded them the resident did not want to have further contact with them.

WILMETTE

INCIDENTS

UNEMPLOYMENT FRAUD
Forty-two reports of unemployment insurance benefits fraud were reported to Wilmette police between Feb. 5 and Feb. 19

IDENTITY THEFT
An Ashland Avenue resident reported on Feb. 5 that someone had used their identity to buy a vehicle from Lexington, Kentucky, and arrange to have it shipped to Schaumburg.

THEFTS

  • Between 1:32 p.m. and 1:44 p.m. on Feb. 8, someone stole a $1,300 bicycle from the rack of a car parked outside the Supercuts, 3217 Lake Ave., after cutting the straps that held it in place.
  • Someone stole a purse at the Rose Hall Montessori school on or before Feb. 12.

HOME BURGLARIES

  • Someone stole a power tool from a detached garage of a home in the 400 block of Highcrest Drive on or before Feb. 7.
  • Someone broke into a home in the 2300 block of Greenwood Avenue between Feb. 13 and Feb. 15.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

A 37-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 7 and charged with driving with a revoked license after officers investigating a traffic crash near Lake Avenue and Ridge Road learned his license had been revoked. He was also issued citations for use of an electronic communication device and having his registration suspended due to lack of insurance.

A 26-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 9 and charged with driving with a revoked license following a traffic stop in the 2400 block of Lake Avenue. Officers also issued him a citation for speeding.

A 28-year-old Bolingbrook man was arrested around 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 10 after an officer assisting him while stranded learned that he had a warrant issued after failing to appear in Will County court in connection with a traffic arrest.

A 40-year-old Chicago man was pulled over around 10:30 p.m. on Feb. 18 after an officer reported him 57 mph in the 30 mph zone in the 2900 block of Lake Avenue. He was ticketed for speeding and for illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a driver.


WINNETKA

INCIDENTS

UNEMPLOYMENT FRAUD
Twenty reports of unemployment insurance benefits fraud were reported to Winnetka police between Feb. 8 and Feb. 20.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • A Locust Street resident reported on Feb. 10 that someone used their identity to access a credit card account and make more than $5,500 in unauthorized purchases on Feb. 9.
  • A Pine Street resident reported on Feb. 10 that someone had made $3,500 in unauthorized purchases using their credit card account on Feb. 6.
  • A White Oak Lane resident reported on Feb. 18 that someone had used their identity to gain control of their Paypal account and made nearly $2,800 in unauthorized purchases.

HOME BURGLARY
Someone stole an unknown amount of jewelry and cash from a locked home in the 1100 block of Ash Street between 9 a.m. Jan. 8 and 2 p.m. Feb. 17.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

A 37-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 10:15 a.m. on Feb. 21 in the 1300 block of Hibabrd Road and charged with speeding 26 to 34 mph above the limit.
