Metra Commuter Lot Halved In Size For Lighting Work

The Village of Glencoe is warning residents that some lighting upgrades are causing closures in the lot. Here's where else you can go.

GLENCOE, IL — The northwest Metra commuter parking lot is a bit smaller this December as contractors work on street lights, meaning the western half of the lot will be closed intermittently. The village said in a release it's for December and again in the beginning of February.

Jasco Electric, the village's contractor, is replacing concrete police with aluminum ones similar to the streetlights downtown. They'll feature LED lamps.

Alternative parking can be found in the southwest and southeast commuter lots, the village said, which are on Old Green Bay Road south of Park Avenue.

The village said the project is part of a series of similar projects to upgrade lighting in commuter parking lots, making more efficient use of electricity and elongating the life of the lights.

Two new aluminum lighted bollards in the median of the new crosswalk on Green Bay Road near Tudor Court are going up this year as well, the village said.
