New Trier Denied Fourth-Straight Girls Soccer Title On PKs

The Trevians missed an extra time spot kick and the first three penalties in the shootout as Barrington won its first state title Saturday.

NAPERVILLE, IL — Barrington maintained their composure all the way through to the conclusion of the final of the Illinois 3A girls soccer tournament, denying New Trier a fourth consecutive state championship Saturday at North Central College in Naperville.

The Barrington Fillies (28-1) and the Trevians (24-3-1) were scoreless after regulation, with the help of goalkeepers Samantha Schmitz and Katy Symanietz, respectively.

New Trier was granted a golden opportunity when they were granted a penalty before the shootout that would have won the game outright, but Sydney Parker struck the post and Lily Conley shot wide, according to the Daily Herald.

In the shootout, the Trevians failed to score on each of their first three attempts. Barrington converted all three, preempting the fourth and fifth kicks.

The win gives Barrington it's first ever state title. The New Trier Girls' Soccer team had won every state title since 2014 and had won 27 consecutive playoff matches prior to Saturday's defeat.
