New Trier High School Presents Disney’s 'Newsies the Musical'

Winnetka, Ill. – Disney’s Newsies the Musical by New Trier Choir Opera will be streamed Saturday, March 20 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Sunday, March 21 at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. The production was filmed in the Gaffney Auditorium, and can be streamed for $5 at http://bit.ly/newsiesnt (or search “New Trier” at ShowTix4u.com).

Set in turn-of-the-century New York City, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged “newsies.” When titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the news boys’ and girl’s expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what’s right!

This New Trier production, which marks the 101st years of the Choir Opera musical, will have over 125 students participating in the orchestra, cast, crew and Soundtraks.

“Newsies provided an opportunity for the New Trier performing arts community to work together and create a significant piece of musical theatre during the most difficult of times,” Director David Ladd said. “The odds were against us, yet we persevered and thrived. We are so proud, not just because we overcame all of the challenges that the pandemic presented, but because we believe it is a great production. We encourage you to pause briefly, put 2021 in the background and take in this magical show.”
