Coach Rose Marchuk, Director of New Trier’s rowing program, said “New Trier has never done better than this year at the Scholastic Midwest Championships. The intensity of competition will increase as we face our Scholastic National competition in less than two weeks. You can expect finishing margins to be much tighter.”

The Women’s team qualified every boat it possibly could based on what it entered. The stroke of the Womens First Varsity 8+ boat, Katherine Figura, said, “we went into the final feeling strong and confident. We focused on pulling hard and putting everything we had into the race, which translated to a fast start and an even faster finish.”

Coach Hope Poor noted that the Womens Freshmen 8+ qualified for Nationals for the ninth straight year. She said of all the novice rowers, “I'm so proud of how far these girls have come in just one year of rowing. They rowed with great style, gumption and heart.”

Coach Charles Richardson said of his Mens Lightweight 8+ boat, “They executed the race plan to perfection and led the field from start the finish and won by a six second margin which is more than a boat length of open water. We plan on carrying this speed to Nationals and compete against some of the best scholastic programs in the country.”

Coach Josip Stolar praised his MensFreshmen and Novice 8+ boats, which he said “dominated in their respective races and won by open water. The Lightweight 4+ took a boat length lead during their race and kept that advantage all the way to the finish line.”

Carl Borsotti, stroke for the victorious Mens First Varsity 8+ boat, said that everyone on his boat “has put a tremendous amount of time and effort into this sport in order to get where they were this weekend, and all we had to do was believe in ourselves and trust our fitness.”
