New Trier Rower Going for Gold at World Rowing Junior Championships

New Trier high school senior Ken Michalec was named to the United States Junior National Rowing Team. He will compete in a four man scull (4x) at the World Rowing Junior Championships in Hamburg, Germany August 6-10th.

Ken was one of 24 rowers chosen nationally to participate in the U.S. rowing selection camp. He left in mid-June for the Seattle Rowing Center where he has been training all summer. On July 3rd, he was selected to compete in a four man scull at the prestigious world championships as part of team U.S.A.

He has been in rigorous training under the guidance of U.S. rowing coach Conal Groom at the Seattle Rowing Center.

The physically taxing and mentally grueling workout regimen consists of two to three practices a day with his teammates.

He is looking forward to competing in Hamburg later on this week and hopes to bring home the gold to the U.S.
