New Trier Wins Team, Individual Girls Golf Titles

The Trevians finished 10 strokes ahead of their nearest competition, while junior Penelope Tir captured the championship by a single stroke.

WINNETKA, IL — The New Trier Girls Golf are state champions for the first time in five years after setting a new state record while coming out on top at the 2017 IHSA State Championship at Hickory Point Golf Club in Decatur earlier this month. The Trevs were led by the individual state champion, junior Penelope Tir of Winnetka. She improved on last year's fourth-place to win the state crown by a single stroke.

Tir, along with teammates Megan Gabor, Abbie Kaestle, Lizzie Kenter, Rachel Rhee and Audrey Tir shot a total of 603 during the Oct. 13-14 tournament, which was a new IHSA records.

Behind the Trevians in the Class 2A division, Barrington High School finished 10 strokes behind in second place, while Hinsdale Central rounded out the top three.

New Trier had previously won the team championship from 2000-2003 and again in 2010 and 2012. The school's only previous individual champion was Alexis Wooster in 2000.
