NEW TRIER TOWNSHIP, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Kenilworth, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state, and county prosecutors often choose to drop or reduce them. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless later proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
GLENCOE
INCIDENTS
HARASSMENT
A Woodlawn Avenue resident reported that their social media username had been posted by two other social media accounts prior to May 28.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone or something damaged a lawn in the 300 block of Madison Avenue prior to about 4 p.m. May 28. The property owner had recently spent $1,700 on new sod.

UNEMPLOYMENT FRAUD
A Dundee Road resident reported on June 1 that someone had used their identity to fraudulently file for unemployment insurance benefits.
KENILWORTH
INCIDENTS/ARRESTS
Kenilworth police reported no incidents or arrests from May 21 to June 4.

NORTHFIELD
INCIDENTS
GIFT CARD SCAMS
- An Arbor Lane resident reported on May 25 that they had responded to an email purporting to have come from PayPal. But when they called the "customer service number" provided, they person on the other end asked them to provide bank account information and $2,000 in gift cards to resolve a credit that had supposedly been added to the resident's account. The resident did not purchase any gift cards, and police are investigating.
- An Old Willow Road resident reported on May 27 that they had dialed a phone number that they believed belonged to Enterprise Car Rentals in order to reserve a car, but the person on the other end of the line tried to get them to buy $480 worth of gift cards and call back to finish the transaction. After the resident purchased the cards and called back, the scammer demanded another prepaid card, and the resident became suspicious and contacted police.
- A Happ Road resident reported on May 28 that responded to an email they believed to have come from Amazon.com about a delivery. When the resident called the number, they were told their account had been "hacked" and demanded gift cards. The resident became suspicious and called police after buying the Google gift cards, called back the fake Amazon representative and being told to buy more.
BATTERY
Police were called to a business in the 100 block of Waukegan Road around 1:30 p.m. on May 19 for a report that a "former client" had grabbed an employee and pushed them against a wall. The employee did not seek to press charges.
SUSPICIOUS INCIDENTS
- A resident in the 800 block of North Happ Road reported that a man was seen in their backyard area around 2:45 p.m. May 19 but left quickly after being spotted by the resident.
- A resident in the 200 block of Latrobe Avenue reported on May 20 that a monitoring service had alerted them that their spouse's cell phone number was being used by someone else.
- A resident in the 1700 block of Colonial Lane reported finding a chicken drumstick wrapped in write in their back yard on May 20
UNEMPLOYMENT FRAUD
A Thornwood Lane resident reported on May 28 that someone had used their identity to file fraudulently for unemployment insurance benefits.
THEFT
A former resident of the 300 block of Graemere Street reported on May 28 that numerous personal items had been stolen from the home in "mid to late 2019." The former resident was compiling a list of missing property at the time of the police report.
ARRRESTS/CITATIONS
DOG BITE
A contractor working in a home in the 300 block of Maple Row reported on May 25 that the homeowner's dog had bitten them, causing minor injuries. Officers issued the dog's owner a non-appearance citation and a $100 fine.

WILMETTE
INCIDENTS
THEFTS
- A resident in the 500 block of Green Bay Road reported on May 12 that a piece of jewelry had gone missing after an unspecified appointment.
- Someone stole brackets from a license plate on a car parked at the Bahai Temple, 112 Linden Ave. on May 14.
- Someone stole a possibly unlocked bicycle from Gillson Park on May 22.
FRAUD
- A 17th Street resident reported on May 16 they they had discovered numerous unspecified fraudulent charges to a credit or debit card.
- Residents of 4th Street, Birchwood Avenue and Greenleaf Avenue reported that their identity had been used to apply fraudulently for unemployment insurance benefits between May 14 and May 28.
SHOPLIFTING ATTEMPT
Shortly after 6 p.m. on May 18, a CVS employee reported spotting someone who had been seen stealing liquor before was at it again. The shoplifter left without taking anything, and representatives of the store at 1515 Sheridan Road requested an investigative follow-up.
SHOPLIFTING
Staff at Jewel-Osco, 411 Green Bay Road, reported around 9 p.m. on May 25 that someone stole unspecified retail items from the store.
IDENTITY THEFT
An Illinois Road resident reported on May 25 that they had received an Illinois driver's license in the mail for which they had never applied. The license had the resident's identifying information, but the photo, height, weight, eye color and signature did not match.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
- Police found graffiti on a building in the 700 block of 12th Street on May 21.
- A resident reported someone broke out the back window of a car in the 1700 block of Forest Avenue on or before May 24.
DISORDERLY CONDUCT
- A resident in the 1100 block of Michigan Avenue reported on May 22 that they had an argument with a man they did not know who they found threatening.
- A resident walking a dog in the 1300 block of Chestnut Avenue reported that a man driving a royal blue Toyota with a loud muffler drove by three times. On the third pass, the resident noticed the driver was masturbating. He was described as in his 30s with curly, blonde, shoulder-length hair worn in a ponytail or bun style. Police were told he was wearing glasses and an orange shirt.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
A 38-year-old Evanston man was arrested around 9:30 a.m. on May 17 and charged with driving with a suspended license following an unspecified traffic violation in the 900 block of Green Bay Road.
Rajeev Kumar, 60, and Syed Zaidi, 60, both of the 3700 block of Lake Avenue, Wilmette, were both charged with misdemeanor domestic battery after officers were called to their shared home around 2:30 a.m. on May 18.
A 21-year-old Des Plaines woman was arrested around 8:30 p.m. on May 25 and charged with driving with a revoked license following at traffic stop near Lake Avenue and Hunter Road. She was also issued citations for improper lane usage and operating an uninsured vehicle.
Gustavo Robledo, 29, of the 6400 block of North Campbell Avenue, Chicago, was arrested shortly after midnight on the morning of May 26 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving without a valid license following a traffic stop in the 2800 block of Lake Avenue. After officers determined he appeared impaired, he refused to provide a breath sample. Robledo was also issued citations for improper lane usage and operating and uninsured vehicle.
Tyshawn Owens, 25, of the 17800 block of Harvard Lane, Country Club Hills, was arrested shortly before 4 a.m. on May 26 and charged with burglary after police were called to report of breaking glass at the Northshore Barber Shop, 410 Linden Ave. An officer saw a man, later identified as Owens, take off running with a cash register. Police said he was taken into custody after a brief foot chase.
Gilberto Almanza, 22, of the 1300 block of Dewey Avenue, Evanston, was arrested around 3 p.m. on May 26 after an officer investigating a landscaping violation determined he was wanted for failing to appear in court in connection with a prior charge of driving under the influence of alcohol in Wilmette.
Calvin Thomas, 29, of the 1200 block of South 13th Avenue, Maywood, was arrested shortly after 8 a.m. on May 26 and charged with burglary after police got a call about a man breaking into cars in the 1000 block of Greenwood Avenue. Officers reported Thomas was found with stolen property and identified as the person who burglarized several cars in the area.
WINNETKA
INCIDENTS
IDENTITY THEFT
An Oak Street resident reported on May 25 that someone had used their identity to open an unauthorized Wells Fargo bank account on April 27. There was no loss reported.
CRIMINAL DEFACEMENT
An employee reported that, at some point between March 1 and May 26, someone used various methods to deface a transformer in the 500 block of Lincoln Avenue, causing $50 in damage.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone caused $100 in damage to a tire of a car parked in the 1000 block of Tower Road between 4:30 and 6 p.m. on May 30.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
A 21-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 12:30 p.m. on May 28 following a traffic stop in the 600 block of Green Bay Road and charged with driving without a valid license. He was also issued citations for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and texting while driving.
A 24-year-old Lake Bluff man was arrested around 8 a.m. on May 29 and charged with driving without a valid registration and speeding following a traffic stop in the 1100 block of Sheridan Road.
