Stolen Car Crashes With Drugs Inside, 3 Arrested: Blotters

Counterfeit cash used to buy hundreds of dollars worth of gift cards; shoplifters flee to Evanston: New Trier Area Police Blotters

The following information comes from the Glencoe, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges represent merely accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.


GLENCOE

INCIDENTS

THEFT
Police reported an investigation remained open after a resident in the 400 block of Lakeside Terrace reported on Aug. 12 that an unidentified thief took several pieces of jewelry at some point last year.

IDENTITY THEFT
An Old Elm Lane resident reported on Aug. 15 that someone had used their identity to apply for unemployment insurance benefits.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT
A Park Avenue resident reported around 8:15 a.m. on Aug. 16 that an unidentified dog owner threatened them during an argument over the pet owner allowing his dog off leash. The resident reported he claimed to have a gun, although he left without brandishing one.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Guadalupe Lupercio-Cardona, 44, of the 3200 block of South Harding Avenue, Chicago, was arrested shortly before 12:15 a.m. on Aug. 16 following a traffic stop near Green Bay Road and Washington Avenue. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and DUI with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater. Police also issued him improper stopping and improper use of a turn signal citations.

SHOPLIFTING
Staff at the Mariano's, 1822 Willow Road, reported on the morning of Aug. 10 that one or more shoplifters stole $3,300 worth of liquor from teh store at about 9:20 p.m. on Aug. 8.

IDENTITY THEFT
A Happ Road resident reported on the afternoon of Aug. 11 that someone had used their identity in an unauthorized attempt to apply for unemployment insurance benefits.

LATE CONSTRUCTION
Officers contacted a contractor doing construction in the 2200 block of Martin Lane after 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 13 in violation of local ordinance and got the work to stop.

ACTIVATED ALARM
Police were called to a home in the 400 block of Edens Lane shortly after 2 p.m. on Aug. 16 for a report that the resident had, at 5 a.m. on Aug. 14, heard a loud noise outside followed by the activation of their burglar alarm. The officers who checked the home more than 48 hours later did not find anything out of the ordinary.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

An 18-year-old Winnetka man was issued local ordinance citations for consumption of a alcohol by a minor, disobeying police officer and possession of drug paraphernalia around 10 p.m. in connection with an encounter with police around the intersection of Winnetka Road and Meadowview Drive.


WILMETTE

INCIDENTS

IDENTITY THEFT
A Crescent Place resident reported around 4 p.m. on Aug. 13 that someone had used their identity to apply for unemployment insurance benefits.

COUNTERFEIT CASH
Staff at the Jewel-Osco at 1517 Sheridan Road reported that they sold a $150 VISA gift card to an unidentified woman or girl in exchange for counterfeit $20 bills around 8:45 p.m. on Aug. 13. A few minutes later, an unidentified man or boy was able to buy another $150 gift card by passing fake $20 bills. An unidentified woman or girl also used counterfeit currency to buy a gift card at the 411 Green Bay Road Jewel store the same night, and police reported the same offenders were responsible for similar crimes at Jewel-Osco stores in Evanston and Skokie.

BIKE THEFT
Someone stole an unlocked, unattended bicycle left in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard at about 8:37 p.m. on Aug. 14.

PUBLIC INDECENCY
A naked man approached a trio of 15-year-old girls gathered near the dunes south of the swimming area at Gillson Beach around 9:15 p.m. on Aug. 16, got within 2 feet of them and kicked sand on them. The girls ran to the beach house and reported the incident. They described the man as between 20 and 30 years old, 5 feet, 7 inches tall and Hispanic wish short, black hair. An employee at the beach reported seeing a naked man run into the bushes, but one was not apprehended.

STOLEN CAR
Someone stole a Honda minivan from a driveway in the 200 block of Lawndale Avenue between 1 and 8 a.m. on Aug. 15 after it was left unlocked with the keys inside.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone burglarized an unlocked car in the 100 block of Lawndale Avenue between 8:30 p.m. Aug. 14 and 10 a.m. Aug. 15, but nothing was reported missing from inside.

PACKAGE THEFT
A resident in the 1700 block of Washington Avenue reported on Aug. 15 that someone stole a package from their porch on July 28 after it was delivered by an online retailer.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Three Chicago residents — a 24-year-old Near South Side man, an 18-year-old Uptown man and a 13-year-old boy were taken into custody around 6:15 p.m. on Aug. 13 on suspicion of stealing baby formula from the Jewel-Osco, 411 Green Bay Road and fleeing to Prairie Avenue and Jenks Street in Evanston, where Wilmette officers apprehended them. Police reported store representatives declined to press charges.

[Name Removed], 43, of Wilmette, was arrested around 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 14 in the 2700 block of Lake Avenue and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Police reported she failed field sobriety tests and refused to provide a breath sample after being pulled over for minor traffic violations.

INCIDENTS

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone removed a wooden address sign from a front yard in the 1400 block of Tower Road between 6 p.m. Aug. 15 and 1 p.m. Aug. 16. It was later found nearby, slightly damaged.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • Someone used the identity of a Ridge Avenue resident to fraudulently apply for unemployment insurance benefits at some point between July 29 and Aug. 11.
  • Someone used the identity of a Spruce Street resident to fraudulently apply for unemployment insurance benefits prior to Aug. 12.
  • An Indian Hill Road resident discovered on Aug. 13 that someone used their identity to apply for unemployment insurance benefits.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Corey C. Codd, 21, of the 1700 block of Sheridan Road, North Chicago, was arrested around 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 11 in the area of Willow and Hibbard roads and charged with unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a controlled substance and driving with a revoked driver's license. Police said he crashed a stolen car he was driving with two passengers inside, a 19-year-old Chicago resident and a 24-year-old North Chicago resident, who were both charged with possession of a controlled substance, a charge Cook County prosecutors have generally not sought to pursue in recent months.

A 20-year-old Evanston resident was issued local ordinance violation citations for possession of cannabis as a minor, consumption of cannabis in public and illegal transportation cannabis..
