2019 Summer Festival Guide For Winnetka, Glencoe

Enjoy festivals, fairs and markets all summer long on the North Shore.

With school letting out and summer kicking into gear on the North Shore, we've compiled a summer-long list of upcoming events in Winnetka and Glencoe. There's family-friendly fun activities on offer across the area all summer long. Find schedules, events and registration deadlines below for festivals, fairs and markets set for summer 2019.

Winnetka-Northfield

Wednesdays in the Woods
Hubbard Woods Park hosts live music, food and drinks every Wednesday evening and childrens' concerts during the day.

Winnetka Children's Fair
The 74th annual Winnetka Children's Fair is taking place at Village Green, 521 Maple St., from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on June 7 and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 8. The event is hosted by Winnetka Community Nursery School and coincides with the final Friday of class in Winnetka public Schools. It features carnival rides, treats and games, and tickets are available on site.

Winnetka Farmers' Market
The 42nd year of the village's weekly farmers' market runs every from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every Saturday until Oct. 19, except during the Winnetka Music Festival. Find fresh fruits and vegetables, specialty items, weekly live music and visits from the Winnetka Police Department in the south parking lot of Village Hall, 510 Green Bay Road, across the street from the Winnetka train station.

Northfield Market and Music
Every Wednesday from June 12 to Aug. 14 a community market will take place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., including children's entertainment followed by live concerts at Clarkson Park, 1950 New Willow Road. A schedule of performers is available online.

Angels With Tails
PAWS Chicago, the region's largest no-kill shelter, holds its annual adoption event to bring animals in need of homes into the sidewalks and storefronts of businesses from noon to 4 p.m. on June 19 in the East Elm and West Elm business districts to showcase the plight of homeless pets.

Winnetka Music Festival
The third annual downtown music festival will feature two main stages, an indoor chapel stage, a family stage and a new acoustic cafe on June 21 and June 22 on Elm Street and Lincoln Avenue. There will be food trucks and local businesses on hand. For the first time, wristbands will be required at the festival for Saturday night's headliners. VIP packages are also available. The festival website offers a full schedule of artists, more details on ticketing and an opportunity to sign up to volunteer.

Art in the Village
The North Shore Art League is hosting the Art in the Village event in Hubbard Woods Park on June 22 and June 23 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The juried exhibition features local and nationally known artists.

Rockin in the Ravines Gala
The Winnetka Historical Society will be celebrating the sesquicentennial of the village at its summer gala on the evening of June 29 with live music, a buffet, raffle and silent audio. Tickets start at $250.

Red White and Blue 5K
The village's Fourth of July celebrations kick off with race on a circuit through town on the morning of June 30.

Winnetka Fourth of July Parade
The village's annual Independence Day celebration begins with a 10 a.m. July 4 parade from the intersection Elm Street and Glendale Avenue through town to Village Green. It will include bands, performers and more, and all residents are invited to be part of the patriotic event. "You don't need talent (although we're sure you have some) just enthusiasm," according to a message from the 2019 Winnetka Fourth of July Committee. For those interested in participating in the parade entry forms are due June 19. The event is followed by a flag-raising ceremony and other events at the Village Green. Fourthfest begins at 6 p.m. at Duke Childs Field, 1321 Willow Road, with fireworks set to begin at 9:20 p.m. This year marks the village's 141st Fourth of July celebration in the 150th year since its founding.

95th Annual Water Carnival
The free event will be held on the evening of July 18 at Tower Road Beach. It will feature events and games for children of all ages as well as a sandcastle building competition.

Winnetka-Northfield Sidewalk Sale
More than 130 merchants will take part in the North Shore's most well-known and busiest sidewalk sale from July 17 to July 20, according to the Winnetka-Northfield Chamber of Commerce. Sidewalk shoppers can also browse among food vendors, professional services and charity organization during the event.

Family Campout
Families will be able to stay overnight at Tower Road Beach on the night of July 27. After dark a movie will be shown and a campfire will be lit. The next morning breakfast will be served. Pre-registration is required and fees are $10 for those with beach passes, $20 for residents and $40 for non-residents.

Green Bay Trail Day
Friends of the Green Bay Trail is holding the first annual Green Bay Trail Day from 8 a.m. to noon on Aug. 3. There will be activities for kids, walkers, bikers and dog lovers along the trail from Tower Avenue to Hazel Street with music, food and fun for the whole family.

Monthly Movies in the Park
Free movies will be shown at Hubbard Woods Park every month during the summer. The schedule includes "Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse" on June 7, "The Little Mermaid" on July 27, "Monster's University" on Aug. 22 and "A Dog's Way Home" on Sept. 6.


Glencoe

Music, Food at the Botanic Garden
The Chicago Botanic Garden hosts a live music series from June through late August. The "Music on the Esplanade" series takes place on Tuesday nights, showing an array of different types of music. On Wednesdays, the garden is holding its "Dancin' Spouts" events. And every Thursday evening in the Rose Garden, the "Hot Summer Nights" concert series will feature sunsets, free live music and dancing. On Saturdays and Sundsays, the "Garden Chef Series" features demonstrations from noted chefs at the garden's open-air amphitheater.

Woodlawn Park-A-Palooza
The Glencoe Park District is celebrating the opening of the new Woodlawn Park with all-ages festivities from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on June 5, including roving entertainment and activities throughout the park.

Beach Bash
The Glencoe Junior High Project is hosting a party at the beach for grades 5 to 8 from 2:30 to 5 p.m. on June 7. Entertainment, games and snacks are included. Tickets range from $15-20 and registration is required. In case of bad weather the event will be held at Central School.

French Market
The Glencoe French Market is back at Wyman Green, 675 Village Court, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday this summer, featuring fresh produce, local flowers, baked goods and other artisan items, according to the village.

Summer Book Sale
The Friends of the Glencoe Library summer book sale is set to run from noon to 5 p.m. on June 8 to June 10 at the Friends Book Room of the Glencoe Public Library, 320 Park Ave., with thousands of used books and discs on sale for reasonable prices to benefit the library's nonprofit foundation.

Glencoe Sidewalk Sale
The downtown Glencoe shopping event will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 28 and June 29.

Movies on the Green
Free movie screenings of will take place at Wyman Green three times this summer. In case of bad weather, the showings will be moved into village hall. The schedule includes "Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse" on June 7, "The Princess Bride" on July 12 and "Ralph Breaks the Internet" on Aug. 9

Glencoe 4th of July Celebration
The village and park district have partnered to expand the annual Independence Day because of the village's 150th birthday celebration. The day begins with a two-mile fun run before games and the 11th annual Glencoe's Got Talent for kids under 18 at Kalk Park. This year will feature an expanded parade route beginning at 3 p.m. Central School and ending at the Party in the Park with live music and 9 p.m. fireworks at Lakefront Park. Also new this year, parade applications are due June 21.

Chicago Botanic Garden Art Festival
The 9th annual festival will present works from 95 artists, as well as interactive art demonstrations and booth chats. The festival runs from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on July 5 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 6 and July 7. The festival on the esplanade at 1000 Lake Cook Road is free to attend, but regular parking fees apply.

Glencoe Festival of Art
The free juried art festival will feature more than 110 artists from around the country working in a variety of media. It will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 27 and July 28 around Green Bay Road and Park Avenue, with live music both days and scavenger hunts for kids throughout the weekend. As part of sesquicentennial celebrations, the festival is holding a contest for Glencoe residents to design an original poster that best represents the village for its 150th anniversary.
