Urinator Charged With Disorderly Conduct, Trespassing: Blotter

Lyons duo arrested in home repair fraud case; Wadsworth woman accused of deceiving car dealership: New Trier Area Blotters

NEW TRIER TOWNSHIP, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Kenilworth, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state, and county prosecutors often choose to drop or reduce them. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless later proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

GLENCOE

INCIDENTS

UNEMPLOYMENT FRAUD
Between Jan. 21 and Feb. 2, 32 Glencoe residents reported someone had used their identity to apply fraudulently for unemployment benefits.

SHOPLIFTING
Someone stole more than $300 worth of liquor from Binny's Beverage Depot, 85 Green Bay Road, at some point prior to 2 p.m. on Jan. 26.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Justin J. Ephraim, 19, of the 4200 block of Custer Avenue, Lyons, was arrested around 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 28 at or near his home and charged with theft by deception after police determined he accepted a $600 check for tuckpointing work that was never completed. Jorge Molina, 46, also of the 4200 block of Custer Avenue, was arrested at the same time on a Lake County warrant stemming from a charge of home repair fraud.

David W. McGee, 64, and Angenette Cavin, 56, both of the 6200 block of South St. Lawrence Avenue, Chicago, were arrested shortly before 2 a.m. on Jan. 30 following a traffic stop near the intersection of Park Avenue and Sheridan Road. McGee was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a suspended license, and officers cited him no insurance and speeding. Cavin was charged with obstructing a peace officer.

A 54-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 9 a.m. on Feb. 1 near the intersection of Green Bay and Lake Cook roads and charged with driving with a suspended license and driving with a suspended registration.

A 22-year-old Evanston man was arrested around 5 p.m. Feb. 1 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop at Old Green Bay Road and Woodlawn Avenue. He was also issued citations for unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver and failure to signal.

INCIDENTS

UNEMPLOYMENT FRAUD
Police received 12 reports from residents that their identities had been stolen and fraudulently used to apply for unemployment insurance benefits between Jan. 22 and Jan. 29.


NORTHFIELD

INCIDENTS

UNEMPLOYMENT FRAUD
Seventeen Glencoe residents reported between Jan. 18 and Jan. 30 that someone had used their identity to apply fraudulently for unemployment benefits.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON
Staff at the Blue Pearl Animal Hospital, 820 W. Frontage Road, called police to report a suspicious person in the lobby about 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 19. Officers spoke to the man, who explained he had car trouble on the freeway and had been attempting to call a car to pick him up.

FALSE ALARM
Police headed to an activated burglar alarm in the 100 block of Dickens Road and found an open garage door around 11 a.m. on Jan. 21. A family member of the homeowner told officers that family friends may have recently picked up some items the resident had left for them.

HOME BURGLARY
Officers were called to the 2200 block of Bracken Lane for a report of a residential burglary at some point prior to 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 28. Police did not specify whether anything, was stolen.

SUSPICIOUS PHONE CALL
A mental health professional reported on Jan. 29 that they had gotten an inappropriate phone call from a partner of a client. Officers contacted the caller and told them not to contact the resident again.

SHOPLIFTING

  • Officers called to the scene of a traffic crash at Willow and Wagner roads around 10 p.m. on Jan. 19 found several shopping bags containing items that had been stolen from the Walgreens, 1825 Willow Road, less than an hour earlier. Store staff declined to press shoplifting charges.
  • Someone stole various unspecified items from the Mariano's, 1822 Willow Road, around 5 p.m. on Jan. 21. Arriving officers were unable to find the shoplifter.
  • Around 6 p.m. on Jan. 29, shoplifters took about $900 worth of alcohol from the Mariano's, 1822 Willow Road, in a shopping cart, but they abandoned the cart and liquor in the parking lot and fled.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Andrea L. Majewski, 49, of the 41500 block of Route 41, Wadsworth, was arrested by the Lake County Sheriff's Office on a Northfield warrant stemming from a June 15, 2020, incident at Fields Land Rover, 670 W. Frontage Road. Majewski was charged with one count of felony deceptive practices.

WILMETTE

INCIDENTS

UNEMPLOYMENT FRAUD
Sixty-nine reports of unemployment insurance benefits fraud were reported to Wilmette police between Jan. 22 and Jan. 29.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone damaged the windshield of a vehicle in the 400 block of Maple Avenue at some point, police were told on Jan. 25.

HARASSMENT
On Jan. 26, a Sheridan Road resident reported that a former acquaintance had been placing unwanted phone calls.

BIKE THEFT
Police were told on Jan. 28 that someone had stolen a bike from a rack in the 1100 block of Dartmouth Street.

DISTURBANCES

  • Police were called to the 2000 block of Wilmette Avenue at some point on Jan. 26 for a report of an unruly passenger, who got out of the car after officers arrived.
  • At some point on Jan. 27, police were called to a home in the 3500 block of Greenwood Avenue for a report people were arguing there.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Fernando Mendoza, 36, of the 1000 block of Central Avenue, Highland Park, was arrested on Jan. 27 in the 700 block of Green Bay Road near the Metra station and charged with criminal trespassing to state property and disorderly conduct. Officers called to the area for a report of a urinating man reported Mendoza peed a second time and refused to leave the train area before being taken into custody.


WINNETKA

INCIDENTS

UNEMPLOYMENT FRAUD
Fifty-two village residents reported their identities had been stolen and used to fraudulently apply for unemployment insurance benefits between Jan. 18 and Jan. 30.

HOME BURGLARY ATTEMPT
A resident in the 500 block of Sheridan Road discovered around 3 p.m. Jan. 17 that someone had tried to get into their home through an unlocked back door before leaving the area. Nothing was reported damaged or stolen.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone stole change and sunglasses from an unlocked car parked in a driveway in the 100 block of Apple Tree Road between 6 p.m. Jan. 21 and noon on Jan. 22 for a $24 loss.

PACKAGE THEFT
Someone stole a package worth $200 from a front porch in the 1200 block of Cherry Street between 3 and 5 p.m. on Jan. 27, police were told the next day.

BIKE THEFTS

  • Someone stole an unlocked bicycle from a rack outside the Hubbard Woods Metra station between 4:41 and 6:06 p.m. on Jan. 20 for a loss of $500.
  • Between 2:30 and 6:45 p.m. on Jan. 29, someone stole another unlocked bike, also worth $500, from the rack outside the Metra station in the 1000 block of Gage Street.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • A Westmoor Road resident reported on Jan. 27 that someone had used their identity to open multiple TCF Bank accounts between Nov. 23 and Dec. 7, 2020.
  • A Lincoln Avenue resident reported on Jan. 29 that someone had opened several store credit card accounts using their identity and made multiple unauthorized purchases for a loss of about $3,000.
  • An Ash Street resident reported on Jan. 30 that someone had used their identity to apply for a Barclays credit card.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Patrick J. Campbell, 56, of the 200 block of Wagner Road, Northfield, was issued a disorderly conduct citation around 2 p.m. on Jan. 21 in the 1400 block of Asbury Avenue following an investigation into a recent incident of unwanted contact with another person.

A 30-year-old East Dundee man was arrested around noon on Jan. 22 and charged with driving with a revoked license following a traffic stop near Hibbard and Willow roads. He was also ticketed for speeding.

Dorota Jaszczur, 53, of the 6900 block of West Diversey Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 10:15 a.m. on Jan. 25 on a Lake County warrant stemming from a deceptive practices charge following a traffic stop in the 1200 block of Ash Street. Officers also issued her a speeding ticket.
