Winnetka Blotter: Illegal Monitor at ATM Site; Thefts at New Trier

A summary of incidents reported in Winnetka during May 16-21.

The following items are taken from the Winnetka Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. May 21

Traffic Arrest: Arnel Gutierrez, 32, of Chicago, was arrested on a charge of driving without a valid driver's license and was cited for failing to use his vehicle's turn signal. He was stopped at 6:34 p.m. at Locust and Illinois roads in Wilmette. His court date is June 22.

May 20

Theft: An employee at New Trier High School notified police after an envelope containing cash went missing from her unsecured desk drawer. The amount lost is $250.

Theft: A bicycle and lock left at a bike rack in the 1000 block of Gage Street was reported missing. The bike is a men's silver Trek model valued at $420.

May 19

ATM Tampering: Technicians working on an automated teller machine (ATM) at the Harris Bank on Gage Street found a skimming device designed to capture information such as a customer's access number. They notified bank employees of the situation. A Harris Bank investigator said no losses had been reported by users of the ATM.

Theft: A New Trier High School employee called police to report that her purse containing debit and credit cards, a cell phone, identification and $20 was taken from her desk.

Theft: A men's red and black Schwinn bike and lock were reported missing from a bike rack in the 700 block of Elm Street. The amount of the loss is $150.

May 18

Home Invasion: A male offender entered a home in the 1100 block of Sheridan Road and attacked a woman. For more information on this incident and a composite sketch of the assailant, .

Identity Theft: A resident reported an unauthorized attempt to access his bank account online using his personal information.

May 16

Criminal Damage: An employee of a business in the 800 block of Elm Street found red graffiti on the back door of the business. The graffiti was removed.

Criminal Damage: A police officer found red graffiti on the back door of a business in the 500 block of Chestnut. The owner of the business was notified and the repair costs were $50.

Traffic Arrest: Salvador Alvarez-Chavez, 38, of Chicago, was arrested on a charge of driving without a valid license in the 100 block of Green Bay Road at 11:08 a.m. He was also cited for having a defective windshield. His court date is June 7.
