Winnetka Blotter: Pants Shoplifted; Bikes Stolen

A summary of incidents reported in Winnetka from May 10-15.

The following items are taken from the Winnetka Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. May 15

False Alarm: A woman in the 600 block of Hill Road called police after she received a phone call from a person who claimed a house her family owned was on fire. The property in Northfield was checked and no fire or damage was seen.

May 13

Commercial Burglary: An alarm went off at a business in the 800 block of Green Bay Road at 8:35 a.m. When officers arrived, they found entry was attempted into the offices from the waiting room. Nothing was reported missing from the building.

May 11

Theft: A bicycle and helmet locked to a bench at New Trier High School were reported stolen a week after they were removed. The loss is estimated at $365.

May 10

Criminal Trespass: Frederick Goss, 55, of Skokie, was arrested on a charge of criminal trespassing when he did not leave an address in the 200 block of Ridge Avenue when he was asked. 

Retail Theft: A woman took a pair of green cotton Alice & Olivia brand pants from a retail store in the 500 block of Chestnut Street without paying for them at 3:33 p.m. The pants are valued at $253.

May 9

Stolen Car Recovered: An officer ran the license plates of a car parked in the West Elm business district and saw that it was reported stolen in Chicago.

Theft: A woman in the 1000 block of Ash Street said loose change was stolen from her vehicle, which was left unlocked in an alley. A maroon men's bicycle was also reported missing from her garage. The amount of the loss is put at $100.

Theft: A bicycle locked and parked at New Trier High School was reported missing. The bike is a men's white Schwinn model. The loss is put at $325.
