Winnetka-Glencoe Christmas 2019 New Year Holiday Hours, Closures

WINNETKA, IL — The home stretch of the holiday season has arrived, with the final week of 2019 beginning with Christmas Eve on Tuesday. Communities across the North Shore are putting the final touches on preparations for the Christmas and New Year's holidays. Last-minute shoppers are out picking up presents and ingredients for holiday meals, travelers are taking to the roads and the sky as they head out to meet family and friends for the festive period, while most students are enjoying their winter break through the start of 2020.

First responders and employees at some businesses will be working on Christmas and New Year's, but most area business will be closed to give workers a chance to gather to share the holiday with loved ones.

Post office: Closed

Federal offices: Closed

Banks: Closed

Gas stations: Open

Refuse Collection: In Glencoe, garbage and recycling pickups scheduled for Wednesday on Christmas and New Year's days will take place on Thursdays. Collections scheduled for Tuesday will not be affected. In Winnetka, all collections remain as scheduled for the last week of 2019 and first week of 2020.

Village Halls: Glencoe Village Hall will close at noon on Dec. 24 and remain closed all day Dec. 25. Non-emergency village offices will also be closed Jan. 1. Winnetka Village Hall will be closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.

Public Libraries: The Glencoe Public Library will close at 1 p.m. on Dec. 24 and remain closed all day Dec. 25. Glencoe's library also closes at 1 p.m. on Dec. 31 and will remain closed on Jan. 1. The Winnetka-Northfield Public Library District's facilities will be closed all day Dec. 24, 25, 31 and Jan. 1.

Public Schools: Local schools will be closed for winter break through Jan. 6.

Park Districts: Glencoe Park District facilities will be closed all day Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. A kid-friendly party and a free workout event are scheduled for New Year's Eve. The Winnetka Park District is hosting the 23rd annual Holiday Sing at Village Green from 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve with Christmas Day and New Year's Day open skate events planned.

Grocery stores: Most will be closed Christmas Day, some will be open and many will have adjusted hours.
