Wilmette-Based Investors Keep Acquiring Property Along Green Bay Road.

Map: Hoffmann Commercial Real Estate now owns more than a dozen North Shore properties and it plans to keep adding more.

WINNETKA, IL — Hoffmann Commercial Real Estate has promised to keep expanding, as it continues to purchase properties in Winnetka and Wilmette. The Wilmette-based real estate investment company is in the process of adding an additional 6 properties to its North Shore portfolio and has no intention of stopping any time soon, Crain's Chicago Business reports.

"I'd buy the entire town if I could," said CEO Greg Hoffmann, a Winnetka native who now lives in Kenilworth and hopes to own local properties for generations, according to Crain's. His firm now owns 14 buildings in Winnetka, plus additional commercial properties in Kenilworth, Lake Forest and Chicago. Hoffmann also has out-of-state properties in Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Nevada and Missouri.

Owning a cluster of commercial properties around the central areas of affluent northern suburbs puts Hoffmann in a strong position to promote downtown businesses by sponsoring local events to attract customers.

Crain's suggests the recent Winnetka acquisitions show confidence that such neighborhoods can withstand the economic pressures on small storefront retail businesses, which remain imperiled by consumers choosing to spend money online.
