Winnetka-Northfield Library Board Candidate Q&A: Lois Neustadt

Get to know the candidates before the April 5 election.

Winnetka-Glencoe Patch: How would you assess the state of the library district’s budget?

Lois Neustadt: As I’m not yet on the board, I am not qualified to answer that question at this time.

Patch: What are some things the library can do to keep up with
the new ways people access literature (ebooks, iPads, nooks,
Kindles, etc.)?

Neustadt: The library already has Kindles for loan, Playaways (mp3’s with a single book) and access to ebooks and audiobooks online. I think the library is doing a great job of keeping in time or ahead of the new technologies.

Patch: Is the library adequately providing resources such as computers, study rooms, reading areas to patrons? Does the library need upgrades to its facilities?

Neustadt: I think the facilities are well used, but I haven’t seen a time when there is a long line to use the facilities. I am at one of the branches a few times a week and I can always get on a computer when I need to.

Patch: What is your favorite childhood book? What are you currently reading?

Neustadt: My favorite childhood books were The Lonely Doll and Scat, Scat, Go Away Little Cat. I just finished Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand. I am currently reading Devil In The White City.

Patch: What else would you like voters to know about your positions on issues, point of view or qualifications?

Neustadt: I have been a regular library user my whole life. I take advantage of
all the local libraries as well as the online catalogs to order books, music or movies from other local libraries if Northfield/Winnetka doesn’t carry their own copies. My
family participates in their activities and I think as a small community we are fortunate to have such a useful library system.
