Winter Storm Warning: North Shore School Closures, Cancellations

Thursday's winter storm warning for the north suburbs forecasts that travel will be very difficult to impossible and visibility will be significantly reduced. Total snow accumulations could rise as high as 12 to 14 inches in northern Cook and Lake counties. The heaviest snow is expected between midnight and 9 a.m. Friday, and many North Shore school districts have announced closures.

The National Weather Service advised everyone to avoid non-essential travel. If you must travel, carry water, food, a shovel and a flashlight, allow extra time and use extreme caution.
