Cooling Centers Announced As Weather Heats Up In Kendall County
These locations are available to those without air conditioning in extreme heat.

YORKVILLE, IL — As temperatures soared over the long weekend, the City of Yorkville shared a list of cooling centers available to Kendall County residents in the event of extreme heat. Even with a slight cool down in the forecast this week, it's never too early to be prepared.
The Kendall County Health Department reminds residents to call ahead to make sure a cooling center is open before heading there. These are some of the locations available in Kendall County.

Things will cool off a bit Wednesday, according to the forecast, with a high of 75 degrees. Thursday, the high will be back around the 90s and high 80s.
Ready.gov advises resident to prepare for extreme heat:
- Find places in your community where you can go to get cool.
- Keep your home cool by doing the following:
- Cover windows with drapes or shades.
- Weather-strip doors and windows.
- Use window reflectors, such as aluminum foil-covered cardboard, to reflect heat back outside.
- Add insulation to keep the heat out.
- Use attic fans to clear hot air.
- Install window air conditioners and insulate around them.
- Learn to recognize the signs of heat-related illness.
To keep yourself safe in extreme heat:
- Find air conditioning.
- Avoid strenuous activities.
- Watch for heat illness.
- Wear light clothing.
- Check on family members and neighbors.
- Drink plenty of fluids.
- Watch for heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.
- Never leave people or pets in a closed car.
