Health Safety Updates Made To Yorkville Holiday Celebration

The following are updated details implemented for Yorkville residents to safely kick off the holiday season during the upcoming celebration.

YORKVILLE, IL —The United City of Yorkville and the Yorkville Parks and Recreation Department are sharing updates to the Yorkville Holiday Celebration due to recent changes in the state's health guidelines. The following are updated details implemented for residents to safely kick off this holiday season during Friday and Saturday's celebration events.

Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony
When: 7:15 p.m., Nov. 20

Where: Riverfront Park (131 E. Hydraulic Ave., Yorkville)

Details: The city invites residents to drive down to the park, and turn your radio station to 88.1 as you and your family watch Mayor Purcell light the beautiful 22-foot tree from the safety of your car. The Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will begin at 7:15 p.m., with parking starting at 6:45 p.m. The city and parks and rec. department ask that residents please note that cars will be parked on a first come, first served basis.

Virtual option: The longtime Yorkville Tradition will also be streamed LIVE on the Yorkville Parks and Recreation Department’s Facebook Page for those who'd like to watch from their home.

Drive-By Santa Visits

When: 4-7 p.m., Nov. 20, and 3-6 p.m., Nov. 21

Where: According to the city, Santa is setting up his workshop in the parking lot located in the far East end of Riverfront Park (131 E. Hydraulic Ave., Yorkville). The city asks that you please access Hydraulic Ave. by Mill Rd., and exit the event using Heustis St. Please be prepared for the possibility of long lines as you wait to visit with Santa.

Details: Families will have the opportunity to drive by Santa's Workshop during both time slots, and share their wish lists with Santa. Families are asked to please have their wish lists written out and posted in the passenger-side window, as an elf will be happy to read it to Santa. In addition, please note, due to new state guidelines, families must stay within their vehicles at all times.

Holiday Fireworks Show

When: 6:30 p.m., Nov. 21

Where: Fireworks will be shot off at the corner of Countryside Pkwy. and Rt. 47. Watch them safely from your car or home.

Details: Start the holiday season with a "BANG"and join the city for the annual Fireworks Show.
