How To Become A Kendall County Weather Spotter
It's the next-coolest thing to being a tornado chaser.

YORKVILLE, IL — Are you interested in learning more about the weather? The Kendall County Emergency Management Agency, or KCEMA, is hosting a class Feb. 8 that will go over the basics off severe weather spotting. The National Weather Service is providing the free training, which will take place at New Life Church at 3205 Cannonball Trail in Yorkville.
Weather experts depend on area residents to identify severe storms and tornadoes, then report them to emergency management agencies. Trained spotters know exactly what's happening on the ground, and can give the weather service real-time information.
The basic training will include a slide and video program that will teach spotters about severe storm structure, cloud features and other clues to identify severe storms and tornadoes. Then, attendees will be trained on communication and spotter networks, to better relay their findings to local agencies.
