Hultgren Weighs In On Trump's Birth Control Coverage Rollback

The 14th Dist. Congressman says 'Protecting individual liberty is crucial to ensuring a free society.'

YORKVILLE, IL — U.S. Representative Randy Hultgren (IL -14) favors President Trump’s announcement Friday that would make it easier for employers to deny insurance coverage for contraception. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Justice Department are slated to make good on a promise made by the president that would offer healthcare plan exemptions to employers with religious or moral objections to covering birth control. The congressman released a statement Tuesday with the following:

“I am pleased President Trump and his Administration have reversed the unconstitutional mandate that violated the First Amendment freedoms of Americans and have instead developed a common sense rule that allows and encourages Americans to live out their religious convictions and deeply held beliefs without fear of reprisal or being forced to violate their conscience.”

The controversial decision to roll benefits back has been met with criticism from the LGBT community and a lawsuit has been filed from Washington State.
