Kendall Co. Deputies Surprise 5-Year-Old Boy With Cancer
"...Showing up at a house unannounced with 15 police offices can be a little scary...," police said. Luckily, Santa vouched for them.
KENDALL COUNTY, IL — Deputies in Kendall County wanted to make it a Christmas to remember for a 5-year-old boy with cancer, according to a Facebook post from the Kendall County Sheriff's Office.
"One of our detectives hand built a toy box, which was then filled with toys and gift cards by the staff of the sheriff's office," the department wrote. "Our detective also put together a 'thin blue line' flag, which was signed by everyone here at the sheriff's office, to remind little Tommy and his family that they have an army of people behind them while he fights on."
Sometimes the best of intentions, however, can have unintended side effects, which police say they learned the hard way.

"Sometimes showing up at a house unannounced with 15 police offices can be a little scary for a five-year-old boy," according to the Facebook post, "but luckily despite this being an obviously busy time of the year for Santa, we brought him by with us to vouch and let Tommy know we were cool."
Police say Santa also confirmed that Tommy was on the "nice" list.

"After checking out his new toys, we brought Tommy out to check out our police Humvee, where he got to check out how the siren worked."
Police apologized to anyone that was asleep nearby at the time, and said Tommy was also given a VIP pass to drop by the sheriff's office for a tour any time.
