Kendall County Fair Marks 26 Years: Livestock, Live Music & More

The fair heads back to town Aug. 2 to 5 at the Kendall County Fairgrounds.

YORKVILLE, IL — “We hope you will join us at the Yorkville Fairgrounds celebrating 26 years at this location,” said Colleen Konop, Kendall County Fair General and Home Ec Superintendent. “4-H members along with local folks bring projects that they have made and compete at the Kendall County Fair for bragging rights, or for that large champion ribbon.”

This year, there will be a a special entry price of $5 per person. For hundreds of local youth, 4-H project displays and animal shows are an important and fun part of the annual Kendall County Fair, which is scheduled for Aug. 2 to 5 at the Kendall County Fairgrounds.

Projects will be on display in Smith 4-H Hall on the fairgrounds include: arts and crafts, woodworking, sewn items like clothes, needle crafts and quilts, baked goods, vegetables, photography, and more. We add other fun categories in which to compete including Lego creations, pocket pets, fairy gardens, cut flowers and flower arrangements as well. These project areas are judged before the fair, but open for viewing throughout the weekend, Konop said.

During the fair, other areas will host shows, including the livestock competitions. 4-H members can compete in these as well:

Thursday, Aug. 2: Following the 8 a.m. sheep show and 8:30 a.m. goat show, everyone can participate in the open show horse speed events beginning at 10 a.m. There are Classes for Exhibition, Youth, Junior, 3-D Classes and Open: Ladies and Men divisions. Thousands of dollars in premiums are offered. Guests can sign up the day of the show. The poultry show begins at 4 p.m. and the swine show at 5 p.m. Then ,on the main stage from 6 to 8 p.m. will be live band karaoke.

Friday, Aug. 3: The swine competitions continue at 8:30 a.m., and the rabbit and dairy shows begin at 9 a.m. Evening band entertainment includes Recycle the Day from 5 to 7 p.m. and Madd Hoss Jackson from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m.

Saturday, Aug. 4: The beef show kicks off at 8 a.m. at the Livestock Arena. A 4-H cat show is at 10 a.m. along with the pocket pet competition Saturday at noon. There is a bags tournament and volleyball competition being organized. At 6 p.m., the annual 4-H Auction starts in the Livestock Show Arena. Live music: Cadillac Groove from 4 to 6 p.m., Moonlight Pickers from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Cluster Pluck from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m., all on the main stage. All the acts listed are included in the entry ticket price of just $5 per person.
