Deputy Chris Phillips, a Corrections Deputy with the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office, was recently awarded Juvenile Officer of the Year by the Illinois Juvenile Officers Association.

The award was given to Deputy Phillips for his hard work and dedication in pioneering the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office Youth Police Academy.

The Kendall County Youth Police Academy aims to introduce participants aged 14-18 to the field of law enforcement and provide an opportunity for youth and police officers to connect. Participants attending the KCSO Youth Police Academy attend lectures, role-play in mock scenarios, participate in physical training, become CPR certified, and give back to the community through service events. The KCSO Youth Police Academy includes structured activities designed to highlight the different areas of the law enforcement and criminal justice fields.

Sheriff Dwight Baird said, “I am extremely proud of Deputy Phillips and his recognition as Juvenile Officer of the Year. Deputy Phillips exemplifies the dedication this office has to forging meaningful and positive relationships, particularly with the youth in our community.
