Harriet Tubman was an American abolitionist and political activist. She was born into slavery, eventually escaped, and subsequently made some 13 missions to rescue many enslaved people by using a network of antislavery activists and safe houses known as the Underground Railroad. During the American Civil War, she served as an armed scout and spy for the Union Army. In her later years, Tubman was an activist in the struggle for women's suffrage.
The Yorkville Public Library invites the public to watch this portrayal by Pamela Welcome on Thursday, February 13 @ 7:00pm, as she brings the passion and determination of Harriet Tubman to life. This educational program, featured during Black History Month, provides audience members with an opportunity to learn about the life of a woman who rose above dire circumstances, the oppression of slavery, and the passion that embraced her once she made it to freedom.
