Travel the World at the Annual 4-H International Night

Event set for April 12 at 7 p.m. in Yorkville

Discover traditions, explore geography and taste native dishes of more than 10 diverse countries with just one visit to Smith 4-H Hall on the Kendall County Fairgrounds on Friday, April 12.

From 7 to 8:30 p.m., International Night visitors can journey with 13 Kendall County 4-H Clubs to fill a “passport” by learning about the countries and cultures of Argentina, Cambodia, Canada, Cuba, Equatorial Guinea, Fiji, Guatemala, Jamaica, Mongolia, Papua New Guinea, Russia and Ukraine.

“Meet 4-H’ers from clubs around the county, as they share facts, flags and food of several different nations,” said Kim Eisnaugle, 4-H Youth Development Program Coordinator. “Each club shows such creativity in their displays and in communicating what they learned.”

As the youth share their 4-H Passport to the World group projects, they will ask “travelers” a question about the study country, and a correct answer will earn the visitors a punch on their passport. Completed excursions “around the world” earn the passport holder a small token for the trip, such as 4-H temporary tattoos, candy, and pencils.

“International Night promotes global citizenship and social awareness,” Eisnaugle added. “This event is a wonderful opportunity for 4-H members to present to small groups, and for community youth and families to learn new things. Please come enjoy these dedicated young people’s projects and travel the globe with us.”
