Work On Route 34 In Yorkville Won't Be Completed Anytime Soon

Work will likely continue on portions of Route 34 through the spring of 2021, though all lanes should be open by November 2020.

YORKVILLE, IL — Work on Route 34 in Kendall County will likely continue until the spring of 2021, according to a report from KendallCountyNow. Portions of the highway have been under construction since 2016, bringing significant traffic delays between Yorkville and Oswego as workers toil to add two lanes between Route 47 and Orchard Road as well as between Center Parkway and Eldamain Road.

According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, the first segment of that construction is almost done and traffic patterns should be back to normal by the summer. But, farther west, all lanes won't be open until at least November 2020, with some work to continue through spring of 2021.

Officials had originally said both projects would be complete by the end of this year.

Department of Transportation engineer Nate Sell told KendallCountyNow that a mild winter had speeded work along, but a "utility delay" had also presented a setback.

In total, both projects will cost about $53 million.
