Yorkville Approves Contract For Wayfinding Signs
Alderman hope the signs will direct more people downtown.

YORKVILLE, IL — The City of Yorkville is one step closer to putting in new signs to direct people downtown. The Aurora Beacon-News reported Friday that Michael's Signs, of Racine, Wis., has been awarded the $25,000 contract, plus another $10,000 for the 2019 budget cycle.
Alderman approved the signs, as part of an effort to enhance the downtown core. The brand image can be displayed on custom designed signs, banners and kiosks, according to the Beacon-News. Yorkville Community Development Director Krysti Barksdale-Noble told the paper that in the first phase, signage will be placed on new street lights along Route 47 to guide vehicular traffic.
The second phase, she said, will be geared toward pedestrians in the form of smaller wayfinding signs, kiosks, or a combination. The city is waiting on various stages of approvals before it determines what, exactly, the signs will look like and where they'll be placed.
