Yorkville Independence Day Celebration To Take Place July 3

YORKVILLE, IL — Yorkville's Independence Day celebration will continue this year, complete with fireworks, a parade and other activities. Festivities are scheduled to start on Saturday, July 3 at 9 a.m. in the Town Square on North Bridge Street.

All celebration activities are free to everyone with the exception of local food and drink purchases. An order of events based on information from Yorkville officials so far is below.

7:30 a.m. — Those looking to enter a float in the parade can arrive at Yorkville High School starting at 7:30 a.m. for line-up. Floats with a patriotic theme are encouraged by parade officials, but not required.

9:00 a.m. — The parade will begin at 9 a.m on Game Farm Road and proceed to Somonauk Street, King Street, West Main Street, Church Street and end at the water tower. Throwing candy is not permitted, but participants can pass out candy while walking the parade route.

Post-Parade until 1:00 p.m. —Activities will take place on the Town Square immediately after the parade until 1 p.m. Activities will include foot races, rides and water fights. Food and beverages will also be available for purchase at this time.

Dusk — Fireworks will begin at dusk and be shot off near the corner of Route 47 and Countryside Parkway.

Town Square activities and the parade will continue as scheduled if it rains unless lightning is spotted. The firework show will be rescheduled in the event of rain to July 17 at the town's River Fest.

Yorkville officials are looking for donations and volunteers to help maintain and continue the celebration. Donations can be given in person or online and can be made out to the United City of Yorkville.
