Yorkville Is One Of State's Best Places To Raise A Family

The city just barely made it out of the top 10. It earned points for its education, health & safety ranking.

YORKVILLE, IL — Yorkville captured the No. 11 spot in a list of best places to raise a family in Illinois by Wallethub. The consumer finance site ranked 222 cities across 21 key indicators of family-friendliness. Data sets include median family income, housing affordability and share of families with young children.

Yorkville ranked No. 8 in the "education, health & safety" category, and No. 41 in "family life & fun." Its worst category was "socioeconomics," coming in at No. 52. Yorkville was within three points of the top slot, held by Naperville.

Illinois's bottom five cities are Markham, Riverdale, East St. Louis, Dolton and Harvey in last place. Chicago was in the bottom ten.

Sure, the "Land of Lincoln" owes billions and we have a little trouble passing budgets, but there are still some noteworthy attributes the state offers. For example, did you know that Frankfort and Oak Park are in a five-way tie for the most playgrounds per capita? Joliet has the least. Naperville came in third behind Chicago and Springfield for most attractions. Yorkville is tied with Montgomery, Plainfield and others for most families with young kids.

Each of those family-friendly metrics were given a weighted score, which contributed in the overall score used in the ranking process.
