Yorkville Polar Plunge For Special Olympics

Participants raise $100 in donations in exchange for "jumping into Illinois' icy winter waters," according to Special Olympics Illinois

This year's plunge may be more mild than polar, but the event to raise money for special olympics is still scheduled for early March.

The following was provided by the Kendall County Sheriff's Office:

"On Sunday, March 5, 2017 between 12:30 pm and 2:30 pm, the Special Olympics Illinois Polar Plunge will be taking place at Loon Lake located in Silver Springs State Park on Fox Road in Yorkville. Registration for the event begins at 11 am at the Kendall County Fairgrounds located at Route 71 and East Highpoint Road in Yorkville. Due to the anticipation of an increase in traffic for the event, the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office would like to warn motorists of the possibility of traffic being slowed or stopped near the fairgrounds and Silver Springs State Park. Motorists are encouraged to avoid Route 71 near the fairgrounds and Fox Road near Silver Springs State Park during the timeframe of this event and seek alternative routes of travel. For more information regarding this event please visit the Special Olympics Illinois website at: www.soill.org."
