Yorkville Sod Watering Ban To Be Lifted Soon

The city's Public Works Director says the moratorium is dependent on the weather.

YORKVILLE, IL — A moratorium on watering sod will soon be lifted, allowing Yorkville residents to tend to their new lawns. Public Works Director Eric Dhuse says it’s not guaranteed, but the city hopes to give the green light within a week, depending on whether it rains and if the temperature drops in the coming days.

In early August, a well broke, which used to pump 2,000 gallons a minute. There’s plenty of water to go around for everyday activities like showering and doing the dishes, but “what we’re trying to do is limit what I call ‘extracurricular’ water use. Newly established yards, plus the dry conditions we’ve been having, that takes a lot of water,” said Dhuse.

There will be notification through press releases and social media when the restrictions are lifted. Sodding permits can be obtained here.
