Yorkville Students And Schools Receive Accolades

School District 115 Board Meeting features Heart Of The Fox kudos.

YORKVILLE, IL — Once a month, the Heart of the Fox Recognition is given to a school in the district that has exhibited capacities to positively affect student learning. A short presentation will be given in the Yorkville School Board District 115 meeting Monday evening with the following highlights:

  • Grant for Breakfast with Books: A $750 grant will be given to Kelly Bachewicz, Bristol Bay Elementary School's K-6 literacy coach. The grant is given to educators in the early years of their career to fund a service project, Books and Breakfast. Through the event, Bachewicz plans to work with Yorkville Public Library to promote the importance of family reading.
  • Yorkville Intermediate School receives the prestigious Whole Child recognition: The Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) selected YIS because it went above and beyond a vision for educating the whole child to actions that result in engaged and self-sufficient learners. Of the five categories (healthy, safe, engaged, supported and challenged), YIS was selected for the "challenged" category. A presentation ceremony will take place March 2 in Schaumburg.
  • National Merit Commended Scholars: Kimberly Batdorf, Haley Middendorf, Carlos Diaz and Eric Naumann were recently recognized their exceptional academic promise in this nationwide competition. They placed among the top three percent of the students who entered this year’s competition. Lauren Daffenberg was recently named as a National Merit Semifinalist. She is among the top 16,000 students, or top 1% of the 1.6 million students who participated in the 63rd annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

The meeting will take place Monday in the Yorkville High School Library Learning Center at 7 p.m.
