Yorkville Veterans Day 2020: What's Open, Closed

YORKVILLE, IL — Veterans Day is Nov. 11, which falls on a Wednesday this year. The national holiday was established in 1926 to honor men and women who have served in the military.

To honor those veterans, many places around the country will be closed.

Yorkville City Hall: City Offices are closed on Wednesday in observance of Veterans Day.

Yorkville Community Unit School District 115: Open

Yorkville Police Department: No matter the time of year or the occasion, the men and women in blue are always here to protect and serve.

Federal government (including the U.S. Postal Service): Closed

Banks: Many, if not most, will be closed. Check your local branch.

Express delivery companies: FedEx and UPS will be open.

The following places will be open at the business owner's discretion:

• Convenience Stores
• Liquor stores
• Retail stores (check with your local retailers first)

According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Day commemorates Armistice Day -- the day when World War I hostilities ended between the Allies and Germany. Veterans Day is officially observed on Nov. 11, regardless of which day it falls.
