Air Bag Theft Ring Hits Ankeny, Des Moines Area
Ankeny car dealerships were targeted by an air bag theft ring, police say.

Thieves preyed upon Ankeny and Pleasant Hill car dealerships over the Labor Day weekend stealing dozens of air bags and breaking into almost 70 cars, according to media reports.
Dealership owners said the air bag thieves were caught in Illinois, according to an AP report posted on CBS.com.
A spokesman with the Polk County Sheriff's Office told the Des Moines Register that thieves sell the stolen air bags to auto repair shops.

In an unrelated air bag theft, an Illinois couple was arrested after taking stolen airbags into one of their homes on Aug. 25. Police said they found more than 100 air bags in the house and at least one of them had been reported stolen from a car dealer in Iowa, according to a report in the Herald News.
