Ankeny Miracle League Celebrates First Game Saturday
The field for children with special needs will be celebrated Saturday morning.

Ankeny's Miracle League Field will hold a grand opening 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Hawkeye Park, 410 West First Street.
The Miracle Park Steering Committee will start off with an opening ceremony before four teams compete from 9 to 10 a.m.

The collaborative project consists of a Miracle League Ball Field, for youth with special needs, an all-inclusive playground and a restroom/concession facility. The field is ready, but the restroom/concession facility and the playground remain unfinished.

Angels in the Outfield --- volunteers who would be paired with players --- are still needed throughout the season. John Deere Des Moines Works employees have volunteered to serve as buddies for the inaugural game.
Register online at www.ankenymiracleleague.com. Spots remain open for games on Sept. 14, 21 and 28.
The Ankeny Kiwanis Club and the City of Ankeny are leading the project and have raised more than $1.1 million toward the $1.2 million goal.Â
