Ankeny Woman Tops Canning at Iowa State Fair

DES MOINES, IA (08/18/2013)(readMedia)-- Amy Carr of Ankeny won first place and a $100 gift card in the Canning with Mrs. Wages contest judged Friday at the 2013 Iowa State Fair.

Rod Zeitler of Iowa City earned second place and a $75 gift card. Susan Schultz of Haverhill claimed third place and a $25 gift card.

Contestants were challenged to create award-worthy canned pickles or tomatoes using Mrs. Wage's seasoning. Entries were judged on taste and appearance.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny.
