Ankeny's Northeast 36th Street Widening Project Nears Completion, Street Reopens
Streetlight and tree installation along Northeast 36th Street in Ankeny will take place all month, but the widened roadway has reopened.

ANKENY, IA. -- The newly widened Northeast 36th Street between North Ankeny Boulevard/U.S. Highway 69 and Northeast Delaware Avenue reopened to traffic today. The arterial street now has four lanes, dedicated left-turn lanes and raised medians.
The improvements to Northeast 36th Street provide increased traffic capacity and mobility, along with improved safety for both drivers and pedestrians city officials said in a news release. The speed limit along the Northeast 36th Street corridor has been lowered from 45 mph to 35 mph.
There also is a new traffic signal at the intersection of Northeast 36th Street and Northeast Trilein Drive and an 8 foot eight-foot-wide sidewalk on the north side of the along the entire corridor.

MidAmerican Energy will finish installation of the streetlights over the next month and city officials caution drivers and pedestrians to be aware of intermittent lane closures throughout October in connection with that work.

In addition, the street right-of-way area will be landscaped with trees this fall and ornamental grasses next spring. The final surface restoration of the corridor with permanent seeding will be completed in late spring 2018.
