Burn Ban In Effect For City Of Ankeny

Open burning is prohibited until the extreme dry conditions change and the burn ban is lifted.

The State Fire Marshal and Polk County Emergency Management Association issued a burn ban for Polk County effective Oct. 16, 2020 until further notice, this includes the City of Ankeny. Open burning is prohibited until the extreme dry conditions change and the burn ban is lifted.

The rules for this ban for all of Ankeny and the unincorporated area in Polk County include:

  • No open burning of any type, this includes recreational fire pits using fire wood
  • No open burning of leaves and tree branches in the unincorporated area of Polk County. Open burning of leaves is never allowed in Ankeny.

Use of fuel burning devices like propane fire places, LP grills or in some cases natural gas fire places are still allowed. The Fire Department asks residents to use safety and caution when using the approved devices and never be leave them unattended.
