Cedar Falls Dog A Thanksgiving Day Hero
A Thanksgiving Day disaster is averted thanks to an Iowan man's canine companion.

Thanks to his dog, a Cedar Falls man is safe and sound despite losing his home to a fire on Thanksgiving Day.
According to KCRG.com, he was asleep early Thursday when his little hero came to the rescue. The man awoke to smoke and flames but both the dog and the man were able to escape without injury.
Let this be a holiday season reminder to us all, as the house was without a single working smoke detector. Cedar Falls Fire Chief John Schilling says “Having working smoke detectors in every home is not just a recommendation, it should be as essential as having running water in your home.”

The house was a total loss, unfortunately, but we were one Lassie-like effort from being witness to an even more tragic holiday incident. The fire is still under investigation, according to Michael Schmidt in his article for The Gazette.
Be sure to test your smoke detectors, especially if you use your fireplace, Christmas lights or extra electric outlets this time of year.
