Celebrating Ankeny Centennial Art

Congratulations to all the young artists from Ankeny Centennial Schools exhibiting in the Ankeny Art Center's K-12 show.

On Thursday, April 17th, the Ankeny Art Center hosted the Ankeny K-12 art reception to celebrate young local artists from Ankeny Centennial Schools. 390 families, students and members of the community attended this two hour event. Students from kindergarten through 12th grade were selected by teachers and staff to exhibit in this show. We would like to congratulate the young artists on their hard work and dedication to the arts!

At this year receptions, ceramic artist and educator Kathryn Riemersma demonstrated with clay in the pottery studio and talked with students about making 3–D art work. This allowed visiting students and families the opportunity to learn, observe, and talk to an artist about working with clay and using the potter's wheel.

"I greatly enjoyed watching students talk about their art work. It was a ton of fun to watch Ankeny students learn more about the pottery studio from Kathryn." Assistant Director, Christina Catron.
