DART recognizes 10th anniversary of Bike & Ride Program
Over 355,000 bike & ride trips made since program started in 2005.
DES MOINES, IOWA—The Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DART) today recognized the 10th Anniversary of the Bike & Ride Program at its regularly scheduled Commission meeting. Accomplishments since 2005 include:
• Bike racks on every Local, Express, Flex and On Call Route;
• Over 355,000 Bike & Ride trips since 2005; and
• Average monthly bike rack usage of 4,311 in the 10th year of the program.
DART General Manager Elizabeth Presutti thanked Carl Voss, who was instrumental in starting the program and continues to be a great advocate. “Carl has truly been a champion for DART’s Bike & Ride program.”
Presutti also recognized others who helped start the bike program, including:
• Local bike shops and organizations such as the Bike Collective;
• The DART Commission, especially Angela Connolly, Chris Hensley, and Skip Conkling who were on the board in 2005 at the time of the launch;
• The sponsors of the Bike & Ride program: Homes Murphy & Associates, ING (now VOYA )and the City of Des Moines Parks and Recreation Department; and
• DART staff and drivers who handle the day-to-day operations of the program.
