One of the most popular reasons women increase their protein intake is to lose weight. Normally, women's bodies must burn carbohydrates for energy. When a woman chooses to eat a diet high in protein and low in carbohydrates, her metabolism begins to burn fat. This is called Ketosis. Once the body has reached ketosis, many women also report a decreased appetite. Women's bodies have the ability to store macronutrients like carbohydrates and fat lipids however, women cannot store protein. For this reason, women need to make sure they get enough protein in their diet every day. Will Lifting Heavy Weights Make Women Bulky?
"I don’t want to lift heavy weights because it will make me get bulky”. I get his one from females a lot and it always makes me cringe. A woman who lifts heavy weights will not get bulky, which is why it hurts my ears every time I hear someone say it. So for anyone who wants to know why I will do my best to explain. The body can’t grow beyond the nutrients you give it to work with. But lets look into some other important factors, in addition to this. Testosterone is the reason men get big and bulky. The testosterone in the body is what makes men get as big as they are and doesn’t allow women to do the same. So without this hormone, the muscles will develop, but not get large. Which is usually the goal that you hear from women after they tell you they don’t want to gain too much muscle mass. Their goal is almost always to “tone up”. Getting toned has to do with eliminating body fat near and around the muscle. Lifting heavy is not going to inhibit this factor and will, in fact, help. If you want to be stronger and toned but still look slim, the suggestion is to challenge yourself with heavier weights and fewer repetitions. A study that looked at women doing both low- and high-intensity resistance exercises found that those who lifted heavier weights with fewer repetitions burned more calories and had a bigger metabolic boost than the women who lifted lighter weights with increased repetitions. So give it a try and pick up a weight.-Peter Garcia-
